Thank you so much for the warm welcome - I can not express how excited I am to work with Kaspa! It is one of the few projects in the space that intuitively understands the value proposition that Satoshi Nakamoto brought to the table and that is willing to go the extra mile to deliver on the original promise of crypto to create a truly decentralized and unstoppable network that would survive even in the most adverse scenarios. Instead of delegating the task of maintaining the ledger to a small number of highly specialized actors (gradually excluding everybody else), Kaspa is committed to creating a network where anybody can participate and run a node. I have to admit that I was initially not sure if I even wanted to stay in the crypto space as it felt like the entire space was slowly pivoting away from the ideals and values that once fascinated me so much, but after talking to people like @hashdag, @michaelsuttonil and a large number of really brilliant people that are already involved with the project, I realized that this original vision is far from dead. Instead of endless discussions there was a feeling of mutual understanding and a shared fascination with DAG based systems that in my opinion capture the very essence of how our world functions at its most fundamental level. I am absolutely amazed by the amount of talent and expertise that is already present in the project and what is even more fascinating is how the project managed to attract such an incredible amount of talent starting as a complete grass-roots movement without any form of VC backing or extensive funding. It feels like the entire team and community is comprised of people that really care about creating a technology that could potentially serve as a settlement layer for all of humanity. Kaspa is destined to prove to the world that performance, security, robustness and openness don't have to be mutually exclusive features of a DLT but can be combined into a single L1 by leveraging insights of years of research. Instead of being the first, there is real value in doing things right and trying to be the best - let's prove to the world that true decentralization not only matters but is superior to any form of benevolent dictatorship! If you want to collaborate or contribute - please reach out to me here on X or via e-mail at: hans.moog@kaspafoundation.org

Since there were a lot of comments to my last post and I cannot really answer all of them individually, I want to take the time to reply to the most common remarks / questions in a separate thread. 1. When I said that we were informed about this decision a few weeks before being done with IOTA 2.0, I meant the time in march shortly before releasing IOTA 2.0 in april earlier this year. 2. Would it be an option to roll out IOTA 2.0 on shimmer instead? I proposed and asked for exactly that back in march but was told that the IF had no interest in pursuing or supporting that direction. Considering that we haven't worked on the code for several months and lost a number of people that were part of the team that built IOTA 2.0, I don't think that this is any longer a viable option (we simply lost too much time). It would take time to get back into the flow and the remaining tasks are also mostly touching on things like adjusting the wallet + tooling and integrating the Move VM which can hardly be done by a few people on the side. 3. I am not sure why the IF stated that it would take 2-3 years to integrate an existing VM as the original estimates I heard in january this year were closer to one year and it sounds somewhat unreasonable to assume that integrating existing code would take longer than the entire research and development of our own node software (and the time should be measured from the point of time where we stopped working on our code and not from the point of time where we made this decision public). 4. I think that the community should approve the vote as we simply can not afford to lose more time. If this decision would have been discussed in march, I would have voted for a different option but now there isn't really a choice. 5. If the community is serious about the idea of continuing Shimmer on their own in the pursuit of the original vision of IOTA, then a better option might be to actually build on top of IOTA's cleaned-up SUI fork. Rust is the better programming language and integrating a simplified version of IOTAs consensus into the SUI code base could actually be done by a small team with a limited amount of time and resources. Being able to piggy-back on the developments of both IOTA and SUI, would allow the network to stay competitive in respect to features without requiring a huge treasury or being constrained by the fact that things might take longer as people are only able to work on this on the side. 6. However, people need to be aware that once this work would be completed, it could easily be copied by both SUI and IOTA, which means that it would maybe make more sense to actually work on this as a community project for IOTA that explores the possibility of a future protocol upgrade that replaces the existing consensus mechanism with something that supports liveness via ebb-and flow + the eventual possibility for users to add blocks directly to the replicated datastructure again (I think liveness should be the main focus for now if people really care about a DAG that doesn't halt as this is the only thing where blockchains are still superior). This would most probably be my favored option as it not only shows that the community takes the promise of the project becoming decentralized (and therefore open to outside contributions) serious, but it would also prevent the splitting of efforts and communities across multiple projects while leaving room for the possibility to eventually return to previous ideals in the future (if shown to be practically feasible within the context of the current codebase). I am not sure if such a community driven engineering effort would be embraced by the IF as there are already ongoing efforts to improve certain aspects of the existing consensus mechanism but it would surely send a strong message about not only the quality and strength of our community but also about its commitment to crypto ideals. Let's not forget that Hornet (our previous mainnet node) originally also started as a community project. Maybe it is time for the community to reconsider their role in this entire endavour and take back some responsibility - not by rejecting the path forward out of protest or by getting bitter, but by taking initiative and by trying to think about ways to constructively work together to propose tangible solutions for possible protocol improvements that can then be considered to be integrated into the protocol. Let's just try to make IOTA a success instead of dwelling on negative thoughts - that's really the only thing that matters as software can always be updated and improved over time (and you actually no longer need the approval of the IF to build things - that's the beauty of permissionless innovation).

Imagine working on something for such a long time and with that much passion and a few weeks before you are done, you are informed that the plan has changed (again ...) and that we actually no longer care about any of the things that we have told everybody for years. It's really hard to put into words how disappointed and betrayed I felt after hearing this decision, especially in the absence of a possibility to even question or discuss it. It just felt so incredibly disrespectful and I will most probably never be able to see this as anything but a massive and completely unnecessary capitulation before the finishing line. However, since I still feel a commitment to the community and my colleagues and because I don't want to harm the project, this will be the last and only time that I publicly ventilate and I will from now on try to focus on the positive aspects: 1. IOTA will finally be decentralized which puts an end to this unbelievable odyssey. 2. IOTA will finally have L1 SC's utilizing an object-based move (which is currently the best VM in the space). 3. IOTA will have a state of the art bft-style consensus. So for anybody that didn't get interested in IOTA for it's vision, this might not even be such a bad thing (at least we forked the right tech). I am trying to give this a chance and stay with IOTA but it will most probably take some time for me to fully regain my enthusiasm. Right now it's time for others to take the stage and excite you and hopefully me as well with their new vision.

@WilfiCon @DomSchiener @WilfiCon IOTA 2.0 should be backward-compatible with IOTA Stardust, the latest running system. If not, to be honest, switching to another EVM is an option. This is what our partners in the industry want: predictability. Today, we use the #IOTAEVM and develop smart contracts.

@MosquitoPay @DomSchiener To be completely honest, I think the IF should finally focus on rolling out #IOTA 2.0, because who wants to develop apps for an outdated DLT and put in a lot of work to implement adaptations to the new token economy?

Flying back from Token2049 after a week of great meetings and events with our team, other dApps, competitors and OGs in the space. I'm more excited than ever about #IOTA and how we can make a difference for us and the entire space. Some of the key takeaways for me: - Let's stop the tribalistic mindset of us vs. them or "my chain is better than yours". Let's work collaboratively together - even with "competitors" - to make our entire industry grow and reach mainstream adoption. Right now all of Crypto is worth less than Apple or Nvidia. Let's 10x and then 100x this market, together. - Capturing mindspace is a continuous effort. There is not a one off initiative, event or campaign. It is all about consistent execution and generating awareness over weeks, if not months. - People are starting to get really interested and excited about what we have built over the last years, and how we are repositioning IOTA in the market. We can be bold and confident again - even more aggressive in promoting and marketing IOTA (when the time is right). - People really appreciate real value projects with long-term horizons and a proven record of executing and being in this space. The noise generated on Twitter isn't necessarily what the market desires. We will continue on our path to generate real value for the world, and will not lose sight of our core principles. - Marketing-focused events are great, but developer events / hackathons and builder support are the real deal. We will absolutely focus on builder events and hackathons and work on providing even more support to early stage startups building on IOTA. It is really inspiring to see how Solana has built one of the most thriving and vibrant ecosystems in the space. There is a lot to learn from them and how they operate. Kudos to them and what they've built. But before we run, we need to walk. IOTA has just recently entered the Web3 game, as we have largely been focused on Enterprise use cases. We have launched the IOTA EVM some 3 months ago, and soon we will introduce even more options to Move IOTA forward. We are in a bootstrapping phase of our ecosystem, onboarding users, dApps and liquidity. We will very soon hit the $10m TVL mark, and I'm confident that we will reach $100m over the next 2 - 3 months as we deploy our strategies and marketing campaigns. Our objective is to have a competitive DeFi ecosystem and use it as a liquidity backbone to bridge the gap to traditional finance and build an entire financial ecosystem fully on-chain. Think about tokenized trade receivables, so that a farmer in Kenya can take out a loan instantly, fully on-chain. Just one example of what we will build together with our ecosystem. In the meantime, we are bringing many of our most exciting and promising products to the IOTA Mainnet. TLIP to digitize trade, with entire countries soon coming online and being connected through IOTA; Digital Product Passports to tokenize physical assets; Asset Tokenization to bring yield-bearing investment products on-chain and digital identity for KYC and secure identification. Use cases that I'm really excited to see on IOTA: - Bringing yield-bearing assets on-chain, fully tokenized and making them composable. Bitcoin was invented to build a new financial system (starting with payments), and we can build an entire financial ecosystem fully on-chain on IOTA. With IOTA we can build an institutional DeFi ecosystem (DEX markets, lending, tokenization, collaterlization, etc.). - Payments, mobile and consumer applications. Let's stop focusing just on enterprise use cases, and work on building for the billions of users out there with mobile phones. Cross border payments, trade finance, remittances, instant payments, etc. - there is so much untapped potential. - Identity is truly exciting, and it's something we have invested in heavily for several years. We should work on launching new identity applications that leverage our framework and ZK to enable people, companies and AI to identify themselves online. You can even build physical products (passports etc.) for this. Let's build the future together. #IOTA

DLT.GREEN official project status update: I have been working in critical infrastructure for more than 20 years in the field of high quality road construction. That is why I have been supporting IOTA as an investor since 2017. We have always tried to solve problems brought to us by the community. In the beginning, the problem was with people's domains, so we just gave them subdomains. Yes, it is clear that this was not the most secure option, but it was the easiest way to let people play with the nodes. There are now some DLT.GREEN OGs that I really appreciate, recognisable by these DLT.GREEN domains. Basically we used the Nuriel script to install in the beginning, which worked great at the time, and later SWARM because it was easy to install all the nodes on one server and you had a cool dashboard. When the dashboard went away and some people missed it, we decided to create our own overview. That was the birth of the NodePool, which to this day tracks, rates and ranks all nodes and gives each node a vote and a value.

Did anybody succeed in getting productive with @GoogleAI? Especially for small tasks, like writing something better, creating a placeholder logo, or extracting/summarizing certain information, it needs more context and still keeps asking questions before finally outputting something useful. It seems 2-3 years behind @OpenAI's #ChatGPT and especially @AnthropicAI's #Claude, which "just get it" and respond properly, with less explanation and prompt fine-tuning needed.
