“I believe that when I die I shall rot, and nothing of my ego will survive. I am not young, and I love life. But I should scorn to shiver with terror at the thought of annihilation. Happiness is nonetheless true happiness because it must come to an end, nor do thought and love lose their value because they are not everlasting.” … “It is not rational arguments but emotions that cause belief in a future life. The most important of these emotions is fear of death... If we genuinely and wholeheartedly believed in a future life, we should cease completely to fear death.” — Bertrand Russell

Did you know Ireland was the home of Werewolves? They didnt need a full moon to transform and werent bloodthirsty beasts. They were from Ossory, a medieval Irish kingdom spanning modern Kilkenny and parts of Laois. The Werewolves of Ossory are among the oldest and strangest "lycanthropic" (man-wolf) traditions in the world. They werent monsters but cursed Christians, warrior-nobles, pilgrims, and penitents. Great bunch of lads. The earliest origin of the Ossory werewolves is a medieval text, Cóir Anmann, or The Fitness of Names. Here we encounter Laignech Fáelad, a shadowy powerful figure. Laignech was said to be the brother of Feradach mac Duach, an early king of the region. Unlike his royal sibling, Laignech possessed a more troubling habit. He “used to go wolfing”which according to the text meant he could transform into a wolf at will. The ability did not die with him. His descendants inherited the power, roaming the countryside in packs, raiding cattle and killing herds “after the fashion of wolves.” Another famous account comes from Gerald of Wales, writing in the late twelfth century in his Topographia Hibernica. By the way the aul TH is notorious for mixing genuine observation with barefaced English colonial contempt. Yet even Gerald seems unsettled by what he records. He recounts a story told to him by a priest travelling through Ossory in 1182. One night, deep in the woods, the priest encountered a wolf who spoke to him in fluent Gaelic. It begged him for help! The wolf explained that he and his mrs were human beings from Ossory, cursed generations earlier by a local holyman Saint Natalis. As punishment, every seven years a man and a woman were forced to leave human society and live as wolves. When their term ended, they could return, provided they survived, and another pair would take their place. Sadly his she-wolf wife lay dying and needed the Last Rites. The priest hesitated, so to convince him, the male wolf reached out with his paw and peeled back the wolf-skin from his wife’s head, revealing beneath it the face of an elderly woman so the priest administered the sacrament. There was also widespread belief held that when a person took on wolf form, in a type of astral travelling with their human body lying at home in a death-like trance.A wound suffered as a wolf would reappear on the human body once the seven years ended, cuts, broken bones, scars carried across forms like a grim accounting. Modern historians view this tradition preserving the memory of something older. Wolf-warrior cults were found across early Indo-European societies. In Ireland, young warriors often lived beyond the margins of settled society, wearing animal skins, adopting lupine hairstyles, and embracing ritual ferocity. Over time, metaphor hardened into myth. Blackbirds live for only around four years, yet in that short time they fill our gardens & woodlands with their beauty and ethereal song 🪶🎶 They feed on all manner of insects, but it’s the earthworm they love most. And by tilting their head to one side, they can actually hear the faint movements of worms beneath the surface....a talent that makes them masters of the lawn at dawn ☀️🪱 Some believe that if you gather the feathers of a Blackbird and place them beneath the pillow of a sleeping loved one, they will speak their innermost desires and darkest secrets....but… do you truly want to know? 🪶

In Irish myth, the number seven is the most magical of all...the face of The Dagda is hidden by seven cowls, people often disappear to the Otherworld for a period of seven years....and, for just one day, every seven years, an island named Hy-Brasil, normally shrouded in impenetrable mist, appears off Ireland's Atlantic coast 🌊 Belief in the "phantom" island, which, even on the day it is visible can still not be reached, was so strong that it appeared on a number of European maps from the 1300s until the 19th century ☁️ In modern culture the island is said to be inhabited by black rabbit but this was a 17th century addition to the myth and bears no basis in traditional folklore 🐰

The nature of fairies in Ireland was generally believed to be such that they were good to the good, yet wicked to the wicked...but that their moods and behaviour could change without warning...and it was said that they were so easily offended that they must only be referred to as "the good people" 🧚🏻‍♂️

BREAKING: Music legend Bruce Springsteen drops a bomb on MAGA world by announcing a surprise nationwide tour to defend America against "our wannabe king" and his "rogue government." Best of all? The first stop is in Minneapolis. "Fans, friends, and good folk from coast to coast. We are living through dark, disturbing, and dangerous times, but do not despair. The cavalry is coming," The Boss said in an announcement video. "Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will be taking the stage this spring from Minneapolis to California to Texas to Washington, D.C. for the Land of Hope and Dreams American Tour," he continued. "We will be rocking your town in celebration and in defense of America, American democracy, American freedom, our American Constitution, and our sacred American dream, all of which are under attack by our wannabe king and his rogue government in Washington, D.C." "Everyone, regardless of where you stand or what you believe in, is welcome," Springsteen added. "So come on out and join the united free republic of E Street Nation for an American spring of rock and rebellion. I'll see you there." By starting the tour in Minneapolis, Springsteen is intentionally drawing attention to the brutal violence and killings that Trump has inflicted on the city with his masked federal agents. The singer composed the hit song "Streets of Minneapolis" in response to the ICE crackdowns. It went on to chart #1 in 21 countries. The tour starts March 31st and will entail 20-date arena showings. The timing is an absolute disaster for Trump, because it means the bard of blue collar America will be hammering his administration at one sold-out show after another. Given his rock bottom approval rating and worsening Epstein scandal, Trump can scarcely afford more bad press ahead of the midterm elections. Springsteen has proven to be one of Trump's most formidable and outspoken foes. He recognizes that this president has betrayed the working class that populate so many of his hit songs and he despises the relentless attacks on our democracy. Please ❤️ and share to thank Bruce Springsteen!

In 1931, a group of critics published a book titled “100 authors against Einstein” compiled of 100 essays attempting to debunk Relativity. They believed that the sheer volume of opposition would discredit Einstein. Einstein response was: "Why a hundred? If I were wrong, one would have been enough."

I will not sit idly as they use me as a prop in a closed-door kangaroo court by a Republican Party running scared. If they want answers, let’s stop the games & do this the right way: in a public hearing, where the American people can see for themselves what this is really about.

Some people say you shouldn't post images of animal abuse. I believe that closing your eyes isn't going to change anything. Nothing is going to disappear just because you can't see what's going on! Words alone can NEVER express the pain or abuse an animal has suffered more than an image!

Hi everyone, I was on a very low ebb yesterday and decided I was going to take it out on X which was quite juvenile. The response to my quite juvenile post was quite overwhelming and frankly of so many people are prepared to comment positively as you have I'm so happy and have decided to cancel my planned huff. Thankyou all for showing so much interest in nature and Irish folklore. It genuinely delights me. You are all wonderful! (it also helps that I've taken my pills...don't tell my wife that I've been forgetting)

Hi everyone on going to give it a break for a while. Either my posts have begun to absolutely stink or the algorithm is real. Either way it's just too much time and effort even though I do enjoy it for rapidly crashing engagement. He good and avoid politics.
