@Brillick10 @DanielsonKassa1 C’mon!! This is disgusting, racist and dangerous on so many levels. This is nothing to belittle or joke about, beside (not that it matters) I doubt that Trump can see the difference between a Somali and an Ethiopian or any African at all.

Documents signed between Menelik II and Italy and Britain: The Borders Between Eritrea and Ethiopia On July 10th 1900,· the Emperor of Ethiopia, Menelik II, and captain Federico Tchico Decola, the representative of #Italy in #Ethiopia, signed a treaty between Italy and Ethiopia in Adiss Ababa for the demarcation of borders between #Eritrea and #Ethiopia. The two parties to the treaty agreed that the Tumat-Tudlek, Marab, Bilsa - Muta line be the borderline between Eritrea and Ethiopia. However, the last borderline between Eritrea and Ethiopia was soon changed by the memorandum appended to the treaty of May 15th, 1902, among #Britain, #Italy and #Ethiopia. The first article of this treaty stipulated that "The borderline between Eritrea and Ethiopia goes from the junction of the depression of Um Hager with the Setitit river following the course of the latter until its meeting with the Maitib river. Then the borderline goes along with the course of Maitib leaving the mountain of 'W elakatakora' or 'Alatakora' inside Eritrea up to the junction of the Ma'arab river with the Mai Ambsa river. The borderline between the junction of Setit and Maitib and the junction of Ma'arab and Mai. Ambsa will be left up to Italian and Ethiopian delegates to determine, provided the Kunama tribe stay within Eritrean territory. On May 16th, 1908, Menelik II and the representative of the Italian government in Addis Ababa, Guiseppi Coli de Felesiano, signed a treaty between Italy and Ethiopia for the demarcation of borders between the colony of Eritrea and Ethiopia; The first article of this treaty stipulated that the borderline between the colony of Eritrea and the Tigrai province go from the furthest point east of Muta river south east ward in a direction parallel to the coast and sixty kilometers away from it until it met the borders of French possessions in Somali-land [today's #Djibouti].

@BMLenjiso Sorry to remind you, but the only one to blame for the lost of the coast is Emp. Menelik. He sold the whole coast to the Italians in exchange for power and arms. In 1993, the coast had long been gone for over 100yrs!!

Ethiopia, an ancient civilization, once commanded a vital foothold on the Red Sea, a maritime lifeline forged through millennia of resilience. For centuries, it poured immense blood and treasure into safeguarding sea access, repelling invaders from Ottoman fleets to Italian colonizers. Yet, in a cruel twist of fate, internal divisions and the pull of self-determination consigned Ethiopia to landlocked exile in 1993. This poignant chapter in its history, a yearning for the maritime access it once mastered, remains a profound and enduring lament. #Ethiopia #RedSea #LostGlory

@Eritrea1952 @propagandopolis Hmmmm, not really what history says. Wasn’t he the one who worked with the Italians to help them «colonise» Segeneyti and it’s surroundings? In doing so he betrayed his people, til he finally realized whatever had done and rebelled against the Italians…

Degyat Bahta Hagos Another legendary hero is Degayt Bahta Hagos of Segeneyti. The opposition movement lead by Degayt Bahta was the largest and well-organized movement at the time in the Eritrean colony. He was born in 1839 and lived in Segeneyti until 1875, Fitewrari Embaye of Tigray began forcing the people of Segenayti to pay unfair amount of taxes. After a while the people of Segenayti were unable to accept or tolerate the amount of taxes imposed by the Tigrayan Fitewrari and began to demonstrate their unhappiness with the way things were going. During one such protest, Degyat Bahta killed the Fitewrari. After the death of Fitewrari Embaye, Degyat Bahta left his hometown to avoid retaliation from the rulers of Tigray and moved to Sahel. The governors of Sahel accepted him and gave him the title of “ Kentiba” where he assumed the command of troops and he fought many battles against Raas Alula. After the occupation of Massawa by the Italians, Degyat Bahta took refuge with the Italians and began receiving weapons from them. After the Italians took hold of the Akelguzay district, they made Bahta the administrator of the region and gave him the title ‘Degyat’. For five years Degyat Bahta served as administrator of the region and won the trust of the Italians, but he was never happy with they were doing. In the year 1893 almost all the farming land in kebesa was taken by the colonizers and was given to Italian farmers brought to Eritrea as a solution for the shortage of arable land in Italy. The Italians sought to take fertile the majority of the arable land in the Kebese and give it to Italian settlers. Natives who had migrated to other areas as a result of drought returned home to find the land of their forefathers at the hand of foreign white men. As a result, in December 1894 Bahta Hagos officially declared opposition against the Italians, and imprisoned the Italian commander Lt. Giovani Sangoneti with his brother and son by his side. Following this, Bahta sought to unite the entire Eritrean kebese against the Italians. After this, he confronted an Italian front at Halai on 18 December 1894 and was about to defeat them but the Italians were rescued by heavily armed reinforcements of 3,000 troops. Soon the legendary Eritrean warrior Degyat Bahta Hagos was martyred and his troops were forced to retreat. After Bahta’s death his brother and followers moved to Tigray. However, Degyat Bahta’s death was not in vain; for the Italians realized that they cannot easily take land from the natives.

The mosque, built in 1646, is part of the Ottoman Turkish Empire and is located on Hahiti Island, near #Massawa, #Eritrea. The Turkish Empire had a significant historical presence in #Eritrea from 1557 to 1865. During this period, it invaded the region and established a central base in #Massawa.

@mkheirom Proffesore!! Dej. Hailu was most probably worried about Ras. Kassa M. who in the end favored Ras W/micheal . 1867 was also at the end of Emp.Tedros’ era. @BereketWL put it quite well in a reply here.Besides, Dej. Hailu himself was born and raised in Adigrat to a tigrayan mother.

@Habtishgreat There is one thing you are not correct- the armed struggle started before annexation on 1 September 1961. But otherwise glad you have acknowledged Ethiopia was not in the picture until 1952.

Eritrea’s History in a simple Chronological order - Ottoman Empire (1517 - early 19th century): Controlled coastal regions, including Massawa. - Egypt (1823 - 1882): Occupied lowlands and Red Sea coast. - Italy (1882 - 1941): Established colonial rule, starting with Assab (1882) and Massawa (1885), formalizing Eritrea as a colony in 1890. - British Military Administration (1941 - 1952): Administered Eritrea post-WWII after Italy's defeat. - Ethiopia (1952 - 1991): Eritrea was federated with Ethiopia in 1952, annexed as a province in 1962, until de facto independence in 1991. Note: in 1962 Shabia started armed struggle -Eritrea People Liberation Front. - Independence (1993): Eritrea achieved de jure independence following a referendum.

I struggle to understand the mindset of some foreigners who travel to African countries, film themselves giving out small amounts of food to children, and then portray it as a grand act of charity. The reaction this woman received from an Eritrean adult in Asmara "Go to your country and feed your own kids" clearly surprised her, but I found it commendable. This attitude truly represents the majority of Eritreans, as we do not seek handouts. @ali_naka
