Álvarez only makes sense if he’s coming to play alongside Gyökeres. Even if he were paired with Havertz, it would still be a suboptimal combination. The most optimal strike partnership is usually a physical focal-point striker paired with a mobile second striker or false nine. Both Álvarez and Havertz naturally like to roam. Neither is a true physical reference point who consistently pins centre-backs and occupies the last line. Their movement would make the attack look fluid, but it would also reduce Arsenal’s ability to penetrate defensive blocks, occupy the box consistently, and provide a reliable central target.
