A big day for @MotifAnalytics: after 2 years of hard work and iteration with early users, we are excited to announce emerging from private beta (ready for everyone) with seed funding from @AmplifyPartners and @felicis as well as backing by dozens of top data executives via @InvestInData.
Why did it take us so long?
We have started with our prior experiences exploring user behavior data and building user flow analysis tools at Google, Facebook, Lyft and Uber. Our goal was to provide the fastest statistically rigorous path from raw data to practical insights in modern tech companies. The key insight was that practical business questions are not about reporting metrics but rather about identifying growth and optimization levers, which are better served using sequence analytics for working naturally with user and business event flows.
In the end, we had to re-imagine analytics from the ground up through 4 key innovations, which come together to speed up practical exploratory analysis:
- Rich interactive sequence visualizations for identifying patterns in user and business flows (Sankey doesn’t cut it)
- Purpose-built sequence operations to query flow data the way analysts think (most practical queries now take under 10 lines of code)
- Incremental query engine to seamlessly trade between query precision, speed and cost according to analyst’s needs (SQL was too slow for sequence queries)
- Foundational AI models for identifying outcome predictors in event sequences (breakthrough LLMs extended to model sequences of events instead of words - we’ll post more about approach in a few days)
We have also developed a novel “local” mode, so everybody can experience Motif on their data without having to share it with us or install any apps.
