Earlier this morning, the Economic & Business Policy Subcommittee convened to discuss upcoming tax measures as announced by Government, and their potential impact on business and economic growth. Key concerns included the rising cost of capital from the proposed 5% WHT on foreign loans, the burden of a 0.5% turnover tax on struggling businesses, and limited relief from PAYE adjustments amid inflationary pressures. Stakeholders also flagged the impact of increased excise duties set to be imposed on key sectors including sugar, alcohol, vegetable oil, cement, ceramic tiles, and plastics which could significantly affect sector competitiveness and drive up production costs.
