I’ve said this before, but with tryouts around the corner… here we go again. A 60-yard dash time isn’t necessary for baseball. This isn’t 1990. Let the haters hate…..

@NoRiskNoParty How did you find the manufacturer to purchase from directly? Online? Network? How did you know you were purchasing at the right price to make profit?

The best advantage of selling building materials is that we get same margins or even better margins than contractors doing the work without doing the work, without pulling permits, without passing any inspection, without looking at any plan and without giving any sort of warranty. It's wild.

This sentence by Dostoyevsky hits so hard. “You sensed that you should be following a different path, a more ambitious one, you felt that you were destined for other things but you had no idea how to achieve them and in your misery you began to hate everything around you.”

I had a card listed on eBay for 4 dollars. Someone offered me 2. I don’t even negotiate at that point, straight decline. If you are wanting 50 % off a 4 dollar card you can kick rocks. Opinions? @CardPurchaser

Last year I started reselling books on eBay. A couple hours a week. Sometimes zero hours a week. Out of my garage. My TOTAL investment on all the inventory to date? $124.89 The profit? $7,932.42. Could I scale and 20x that? Absolutely. But I am too busy slanging designer fashion on WhatNot where my margins are just as exciting.

Again, most travel clubs don't make much money. They certainly don't charge because they know the parents will pay it. The tournaments also make money but much less than people believe. You can look at what AAU nets per year for all sports.
Kronic Reader@Motwitty

@SchultzieXC @AaronGogley @gargoyleNEET @CoachSwit And add a price tag to everything because they know the parents will pay even if they can’t afford it. Great take Mike.

I respectfully disagree with you sir. HBO did a special on this in their “Real Sports” show and others have covered it as well. Youth sports, especially travel ball, has turned into a Billion dollar industry. They are making a lot of money, to include tax right offs for the national teams.

@AaronGogley @gargoyleNEET @Motwitty @CoachSwit PE stepped in to provide tournaments and preyed on the fear of the parents. They provided sites and the promise of facilities, exposure, and eluded to a leg up on all the teams and players that weren’t at this tournament. Thus the monster that has been created in youth sports.

Stay-to-play should be illegal. Tournament owners — you’ve become the problem. Families already pay to play, travel, and eat… now you’re telling them where they have to stay too? At some point, it stops being about baseball.

I’m not sure why you’re so agreesive about your opinion. I feel you should do some digging into this topic to understand my point. In the Midwest for example, it’s bully capitalism. No tournaments within 5-7 states that doesn’t have the format I’m talking about. Now Florida, Texas, California, I’m sure you can find tournaments that you can play that you don’t have to: stay at their hotel, pay entrance fees, pay to stream game, pay for pictures, charge 10$ for a bubba burger at the grill, etc etc etc. it’s one thing to say you can “pick” where you go, its another thing to make it “routine” for parents to pay.

It’s not “bully capitalism.” You don’t have to sign up for a single tournament that has stay to play. Your club can choose tournaments that don’t use this. Free will, free choice. You don’t like it, don’t do it.
Kronic Reader@Motwitty

@SchultzieXC @AaronGogley @gargoyleNEET @CoachSwit Great take! This was my point. They make teams stay at their hotels and they are a billion dollar industry. That’s more communism than Aaron thinks. I’m all for capitalism, but not bully capitalism.

@AaronGogley @gargoyleNEET @Motwitty @CoachSwit Prepubescent kids should be playing in rec leagues. However, private equity has convinced parents that this isn’t the pathway to whatever dreams they have for their child and in doing so, stripped the rec leagues of resources and players. It’s a $40 billion a year scam.

We have a guy at my firm. Let’s call him David. David is a senior manager, always the first to crack a joke, buys the team lunch on Fridays, and dresses impeccably. A true "stand-up guy" who seems to have his entire life figured out. But nobody knew that for the past 8 months, David has been going home to a completely empty 1-bedroom apartment, sleeping on a single mattress on the floor. His colleagues just assume his family relocated abroad. The truth? Family court stripped him of everything. He spent 12 years breaking his back to build a beautiful home for his wife and two daughters. When the marriage crashed, the court ordered him out to "maintain stability for the kids." He left with just a suitcase. Now, he pays the rent for that big house, plus their school fees, while struggling to feed himself. But the money isn't even the worst part. It’s the crippling silence. David went from waking up to his daughters jumping on his bed every morning, to having to negotiate with his ex for a 5-minute WhatsApp video call. He was legally demoted to an "every other weekend" uncle. Men are carrying mountains of grief and hiding it behind office banter and hanging out with the boys. David sits at the lounge with the guys after work, laughing and buying drinks. But when he drives home, he sits in his parked car for an hour in the dark just to cry before facing his empty apartment. Society has convinced us that a man's heartbreak over losing his family isn't valid. We expect them to lose their homes, their daily access to their kids, and their peace of mind, and just show up to work on Monday in a suit like nothing happened. Check on your strong male friends. The system is breaking them in half, and they are bleeding out in absolute silence.

I brought my son to the biggest fitness trade show in the USA. We fly across the country, get to the entrance and a guy puts his hand out and says, “no one under 18 is allowed in.” The absolute lack of desire to see the next generation love fitness is insane.

This is my favorite communist argument. They make too much profit off us! Don’t go. You have a choice.
Kronic Reader@Motwitty

@AaronGogley @CoachSwit 100k profit every weekend isn’t enough for the organizer? You’re argument is that they would make even more money if the hotels weren’t forced on people. I think that’s a bad take. Some of these parks/organizers are making 500k plus a year profit.

@CoachSwit This is said by a person who doesn't understand how the economics of tournaments work. The reason the tournaments aren't even more expensive is because of rebates by the local sports/tourism bureau. Stay to play is the easiest way to secure the rebate.

We are off to a bad start, in fact, I would say a terrible start with 2026 Topps Heritage I opened a sealed case of 12 hobby boxes with a guaranteed relic or autograph in each box. you'd probably expect to see 6 autographs and 6 relics in each case, but that can vary well I got 8 relics and 4 autographs and here's the really, really bad part, I got 3 of the exact same Clubhouse Collection relics of Brooks Lee I mean this is really bad do you think a breaker would get a case like this? I'm definitely going to reach out to @Topps on this one @CardPurchaser
