Hey everyone. If anyone is still around, my first child (daughter) was born December 9th. I also was promoted in my company while I was on leave because they got my review in beforehand. I know the market is bad out there. I was stuck in it for over 7 months. Don't give up hope..

Where are devs going now? X seems to be dead. Low engagement, more ads, and the people I want to see updates from, their posts are all deprioritized from my viewing.

@TheTechRally Not even going to test the job market.. staying put and trying to pivot into a bigger role within my company.

The job market is hard right now for junior devs. How are y'all strategizing this job hunt search?

@TheJackForge Yeah.. I took up a software product support role for now.. great foot in the door and potentially some internal paths back into a developer role if I really want to.

@megfdev Yup I was passed up for roles because I had no exp in SQL.. but when I started I'm finding that most of the scripts are already pre-made and those higher roles just copy and paste them. 🤷‍♂️

Because I've only been using my software/technical problem solving skills, efficient workflow and multitasking on a pc, but haven't brought any programming or management skills I have on my resume to the company yet.. If I ever bring those in, it will be the perfect storm. 💰💰💰

Received surpassing for my annual review, building a pathway towards a dev, advanced technician or engineering team, or maybe a leadership role once I get through my 1 year of getting a foot in the door for an almost 4 billion dollar company. That's just me scratching the surface

@speckydude_js I have all of my settings and bookmarks are on Firefox on my pc. At work, the software I help support recommends using Chrome, so most clients who use it also use Chrome. Makes it easier to troubleshoot with them if we're looking at the same things on the same browser.

@MoxleyDev Any reason for that ?

Is anyone still using the Firefox browser in 2023? I am using Chrome all the time 🤷‍♂️

@ahuskano Whoa... our rent here in MA is a bit over 3k USD per month. My mortgage before when I owned a home was about $2800 USD. So we needed a bit more to live comfortably.

How much do you need to live a good life in your country? I live in Croatia. $2,000-$2,500 monthly is enough to live better than most people.

@MoxleyDev Oh nice! I will say I liked Japan for many reasons while I was working there but the office culture took some getting used to for sure. Compared to the US tho, in terms of universal healthcare, pensions, stuff like that Japan was superior imo

@megfdev I went for 7 nights in 2019 and flew into Narita. Just came back this past September after going for 2 weeks this time.. flew into Haneda. Also stayed in Kyoto, went to Osaka and Miyajima Island. It's my favorite country in the world for sure. Wish I could live there!
