One of our luckiest and most unusual sightings in Papua New Guinea this year was of this Papuan Quoll at Kumul Lodge. This rare predatory marsupial is seldom seen, yet this inquisitive individual repeatedly approached us to within a few metres! Unreal!! #wildlifephotography

Meet Aang the Quoll! At 1.65kg, he's one of the heftier chuditch we translocated to Mt Gibson this year. Here, I'm releasing him back into the wild after a quick check-up yesterday. He was looking very healthy and has even gained some weight since we first caught him 😀. #WildOz

@leroy_megan Okay thanks, I will look into it. Shouldn’t be any pitfall traps there! Also our pitfall traps normally have mesh or holes on the bottom so water can escape. Thanks a lot

The defensive display of a dead leaf mantis, a giant mouth with huge spiked teeth But this is an illusion What you are looking at is the front spiny legs folded to create this intense deception This is called Deimatic behaviour

@leroy_megan Weird! Where was that? We use cage traps for quolls! May be an old pitfall trap from ages ago that’s popped up with rains!?

@leroy_megan @MoyleTali Age and reproductive status- we want young ones that don't have yellow/chipped teeth (under 3 years old), and not lactating, which would mean they have young denned somewhere #quollpatrol
