I can't believe this is real There's a course at UW-Madison where you play video games, keep a journal as you play video games, and watch your professor play video games. What happened to, I dunno, reading at universities?!

@ConceptualJames @EliotBeacon James, you're friends with Michael O'Fallon. Do you think he is more likely to fall for this than the average person? Every group has people who will believe whatever their leaders tell them. You know this already, but what matters is what is true, not what idiots online say.

@realmikolson @TheStaad I mean absolutely no offense here, but I researched this recently. There may not be a dogmatic list, but they seem to coalesce around a handful of them

If you’re offended by Catholic teaching, it is highly likely that you are in a state of mortal sin and desire to justify it

Hmm, as far as I’ve read, the Roman Catholic Church does not define which sins are mortal and which sins aren’t. There’s no official list. Secondly, the Bible—the only record of teachings we have from Jesus and the apostles—makes no reference to “mortal” sins vs any other kind of sin. Thirdly, we see the church in Berea commended as “noble” for testing the preaching of the Apostle Paul himself with the written Scriptures (Acts 17). Is Luke commending them for being in a state of “mortal sin”?

@jwsherrod Also, before you block me, I'm not a race essentialist, or a Christian Nationalist. I just have worked with enough black people to know this is how they are taught, and this is what they think. The community as a whole (with exceptions, obviously), blames whites for everything.

@jwsherrod Unfortunately, your daughter had better get used to this. Because she will probably hear it again if you live in an area with more than a few black people.

My daughter experienced anti-white racism. Yesterday I took my almost ten-year-old daughter to the playground. She was playing with some other kids, and then came over and said to me: "Dad, that black girl over there told me to go play somewhere else. She said she doesn't like white people. She actually said that to my face! That's not very nice." I just told her, "No, that's not very nice. We don't treat people like that, do we?" "No," she said. I'm not making a huge deal out of this, because I'm not a race-essentialist. The Christian Nationalists call me a liberal for this, but I really do believe in MLK's dream that people will be judged for the content of their character, not the color of their skin. My daughter wasn't super upset about it, she was just shocked that someone would actually say that to her. I also didn't make a big deal out of it because there's no reason to. It was a good lesson to her that sometimes people are mean based on superficial details, and an opportunity to reinforce to her that we don't do that to other people. I hope that girl on the playground grows out of that, and I hope my daughter continues to see any race-based bullying as wrong, no matter which racial group it's coming from.

@BMcGrewvy Heck, I could even see a boy's Sunday School teacher posting that (although the thought of Talarico teaching Sunday School sends shivers down my spine).

@ConceptualJames Not sure that's true. Sure, maybe on Twitter, but Twitter doesn't represent real life. The people I talk to in real life respect what you have to say, and many of them, like me, regularly pray for you. You are an incredibly valuable voice, no matter what the groypers think.

I understand the calculations and all that, but let's be real. More people on the Right would celebrate my death than the Left. What am I supposed to do with that? Unite with it? Oppose it? How do I work this one out, if that's how the working things out is supposed to work?

@NeilShenvi @jwsherrod @finn20142017 We haven't been talking about you for, like, the last half-dozen tweets. But I shan't waste anymore of my or your time; this conversation, unfortunately, is going nowhere. You could do a lot of good, Dr. Shenvi, if you would value truth more than unity. But that's up to you.

Again, this will depend entirely on how you define "DEI." For example, if you listen to the Demars interview I posted, I talk about the so-called "racial quotas" at Summit which are no such thing, as I've explained many times at great length. My position on all these issues is nuanced, but I've been entirely consistent in all of my writing about it for the last 8 years (including 2 full-length books!) You can believe that I'm wrong or even wickedly wrong. But it doesn't seem plausible to suggest that I don't actually believe what I have been saying for almost a decade.

I will never understand Shenvi Derangement Syndrome. Do I agree with everything he says? No. But he seems to be a very nice person who genuinely loves the Lord and has accurately perceived and spoken against a lot of serious wrongs in the church from the left and right.

@NeilShenvi @jwsherrod @finn20142017 Ok let's do specifics. Racism. Favoring one skin tone over another, which DEI legitimately is. Obviously evil. Do you deny that any of the statements I made in the previous tweet are true? Did those people not do precisely that? Be careful how you answer because I have receipts.

@MoynaghEmory @jwsherrod @finn20142017 I think there's probably a broad spectrum of what you're calling "woke DEI politics," some of which I think is bad and some of which I think is permissible. None of what I've seen would remotely justify calling any of these men unregenerate.

@NeilShenvi @jwsherrod @finn20142017 Do you deny that Mohler made the statement I claim? Do you deny that Mohler, Williams, Greear, Hall, and others brought woke DEI politics into the convention? Do you deny that those politics are evil? Do you deny that we can judge men by their fruits?

@MoynaghEmory @jwsherrod @finn20142017 Do you understand that "wolf" in the Bible is not just "a bad leader" or "a disqualified pastor" but "an unregenerate person who is actively undermining the faith of genuine believers"? Is that what you're claiming?

@jwsherrod @NeilShenvi @finn20142017 Do you even care that Shenvi refuses to call out by name the people mainstreaming woke into the SBC? Do you care that he goes to one of their churches? Those facts seem very relevant, and he has not disputed either. And do those facts matter at all to your evaluation of him?

@jwsherrod @NeilShenvi @finn20142017 John, are you seriously telling me my tone is the problem, not the fact, which Shenvi has admitted, that he refuses to call out wokeness in his own denomination? That part doesn't bother you, but me calling him out on it does?

@NeilShenvi @jwsherrod @finn20142017 Yes I absolutely do. You can't hide behind their reputations. I've been watching their actions. Mohler told us to judge him by who he platforms. Jarvis Williams is still employed. Matt Hall was not fired. Case closed.

@NeilShenvi @jwsherrod @finn20142017 Seems to me that might be important for an apologist trying to save the SBC to talk about. You know, maybe get the wolves in sheep's clothing out of the church?

@NeilShenvi @jwsherrod @finn20142017 Well, that's lovely. Does any of that evidence document, by name, what your denominational hierarchy has been doing to the bride of Christ for the last decade or so? Or do I have to go find that myself because you won't talk about it?
