I want to order something from lagos, but I decided to support local businesses in my area, provided the cost difference is not above 10k. Lagos vendor: 53,500naira. Delivery: 5k. Ijebu vendor: 85k. Maruwa: 1,500. Same product, same quality. So even with the delivery fee, lagos' own is still cheaper. Now you wonder why people on your street don't patronise you.

The landlord of the next building told all his tenants to move out, saying he wanted to renovate the compound. This was around late last year, so people started leaving one by one. Everyone on the street expected to see workers, cement, paint, or at least some sign of renovation. But nothing happened. After a while, new tenants started moving into the same building he claimed he wanted to renovate. No repairs anywhere, no upgrades, nothing at all. Today, I saw the landlord driving a new car. Like he bought a new car. So it became clear that “renovation” was just an excuse to push the old tenants out and bring in new ones at higher rent. Honestly, what some landlords are doing these days is not fair. The way rents are being increased anyhow is becoming too much. Can’t it be regulated?

A lady’s car broke down at Bolade Bus Stop, opposite Arena Market, around 10pm. She was surrounded by touts and street urchins. I was driving out of GRA when I noticed the situation. I parked and asked what was wrong. She had already paid one group about ₦10,000, but another set came, threatening to deflate her tyres and seize her phone. I spoke to them in street language, trying to calm things down, but they insisted on ₦100,000. I called a friend in the Army at Maryland Barracks. Though he wasn’t around, he sent someone who arrived in less than five minutes, with a mechanic. The car was fixed quickly, and she didn’t pay a dime. She’s married, but her husband lives in Germany, and she only visits occasionally due to work. Since that night, we’ve stayed in touch. Over time, we became close, she shares work issues, relationship matters, and often seeks my advice. Years later, there was an opening in her company’s finance department. I referred a friend of mine, a newly married man with a child who lost his job after COVID-19. Out of over 100 applicants, he got the job. He later relocated to the UK with his family in 2021. Before returning to Nigeria, he asked me to help find a house. I found one in Abule Egba that needed minor renovation for ₦70M. He sent the money, and I added ₦5M to pay for my inconveniences. While he was still in the UK, he shipped his car Lexus RX350 2023 and a Toyota Corrolla 2012 to my place, where it stayed for over 8 months before his arrival. While I went to pick him up at the Airport, he asked if I was already driving the Corrolla, I told him No since I have my own car, he said, that was for you. His words to me were: “Seun, I have a family, but I feel safer and more comfortable with you than even my own blood relatives so there is nothing I have done and would do for you that is denser to the impact you've made in my life and family. My good deeds are no longer preserve in heaven, I’m now reaping them on earth. Kindness, integrity, and showing up for people in difficult moments open doors money cannot buy. The value you give consistently will always return, through unexpected opportunities and lifelong trust.

I just heard something very funny, and I had to post it immediately. So this guy got married in 2023 at a time when he was really struggling financially. He was quite close to his fiancée’s (now wife’s) family, so they reduced a lot of items on the bride price list because they understood his situation. He didn’t pay much, just arranged a few things and got married. Fast forward two years later, a lot has changed. His life and finances have improved, and the wife’s parents are fully aware of this. He said last December, his wife’s parents invited him over. He thought it was just a normal visit. Only for him to get there and meet a full family gathering, elders, parents, everyone seated. At that point, he already knew something was off. Long story short, they told him they want him to come and pay the proper bride price. They even brought out a fresh list, and this one was heavy. It’s not like he can’t afford it now, but he feels it doesn’t make sense to pay another bride price after two years of marriage. According to him, they’ve been on his neck ever since. He spoke to his wife about it, but she’s also confused and doesn’t really know what to do. So let me ask you, if you were in his shoes, would you pay the bride price again or decline?

“Since yesterday I am on my way to Calabar. I went to GUO park first, they said they are not going to Calabar. Then I came to GIGM park to board a bus, after paying money and was about to enter the bus, the passengers said they can’t travel with a Fulani man, which made them refund my money. They said they are sorry, that passengers said they can’t to travel with a Fulani. In comparing the burial arrangements provided by Obi Cubana and Baby Oku for their parents, which one stands out as more impressive and dependable; does Obi Cubana's use of 700 cows and other resources pale in comparison to Baby Oku's extravagant display involving 501,000 cows, gold casket and chartered helicopter for his father's security personnel? I attended my husband’s side chick’s naming ceremony. I danced, sprayed money, and even ate jollof rice. But the gift in my bag ended everything. 😌 They say “fear women”… but honestly, fear a calm woman. My name is Adesuwa. I was married to Kunle for 6 years with no child just insults, pressure, and endless “God will do it.” Three months ago, he brought home a pregnant girl. “This is Titi,” he said proudly. “She’s carrying my son. Since you couldn’t give me a child, she will.” I didn’t fight or shout. I cooked for her, took care of her, and played my role perfectly. Last week, she gave birth to a baby boy. Yesterday was the naming ceremony, full house, music, celebration, and his mum throwing shades at me. Then it was time for gifts. I stood up, took the mic, and smiled. “Congratulations, my husband. I also brought a gift.” I brought out an envelope. “Before we got married, we ran tests. You never collected yours… so I did.” Silence. I opened it: “Azoospermia. Zero sperm count.” The crowd froze. “So if you have zero sperm… whose child is this?” I glanced at his best friend sitting in front. Tension shifted instantly. I dropped the mic and quietly told him, “The house is mine. You have 2 hours to leave.” I walked out. Now everyone is calling me wicked for exposing him publicly. But be honest… Did I go too far? Or did I just return the energy? 🤔

@999jah__ @Kene_Nnewi Bros uche when they say something of that nature is gold it doesn't mean the whole material used in its production is gold, must time it only the coating alone that is gold, like it is gold plated and not necessarily that it is made with gold from scratch

Another fact about Igbo culture for you "emergency Igbo culture custodians". Before colonialism and Christianity, there were no surnames. Children were known by their FIRST NAME and MOTHER'S NAME. For example, if your name is Chibuike and Your mother's name is Mgborie, you were called Chibuike Nwa Mgborie. Why was it so? Because in Igbo culture, the child is seen as belonging to their Mum. Also, back then because most men were polygamous, it made more sense for children to be recognized by their mother's names father than their father's. It was Christian missionaries who introduced the concept of surnames and then instead of retaining the mother's names as the surname, switched it to be the father's name because that was their own practice. Even till date, people might refer to you as "Nwa (insert your mother's name)" Surnames are a "new" and foreign concept for Igbo people. If this upsets you, yet you claim to love your Mum, you are a fool indeed.

Wale Edun told the IMF to their face just last week. Nigeria is not taking your loan. He turned down the offer publicly in Washington while attending the IMF-World Bank Spring Meetings. Four days later, he was “out of the cabinet”. Now today, Tinubu has gone back to Senate asking for $516.3 million from Deutsche Bank. For a road. The same man who has already borrowed $6 billion in the last month alone. They say Edun resigned on health grounds. Very convenient health that started the moment he became an obstacle to borrowing. Taiwo Oyedele just arrived. His first assignment? Rubber-stamp the next loan letter. That is the job description now.

I was dating this Muslim guy from Kano. We met at NYSC camp. He was this tall fine guy from a good family there. We started talking at the mammy market and I fell in love. His parents weren’t cool with the relationship at all. They said I wasn’t Muslim and not from their place. But to marry him, I had to convert to Islam. I did the Shahada, changed my name, and we got married. My family wasn’t happy but I did it anyway. I gave birth to two beautiful girls. His parents weren’t cool with it, neither was he, but he didn’t voice it. His family always bashed me for that, calling me an outsider and saying I failed as a wife because I had no son. They would always say a man needs sons. One day he told me he was traveling to see his parents in the village. He said he would soon come back. I packed his bag and he left. Just for him to come back with an entourage and a new wife. Immediately he gave me Shekki Talaq, Talaq, Talaq, three times, just like that, finished. I stood there shaking, tears burning my eyes. After everything, I converted for you, we have two daughters. He didn’t even answer. His father just pointed and said, pack your things, the driver is taking you and the girls back to your parents today, they already know. They gave me two hours. I packed the girls’ clothes and a few of my things. The older one kept asking why we were leaving. The small one just cried. Nobody helped. I carried the two girls into the car, tears falling. I gave up everything, my own faith, my comfort, everything for this man. Now it is just me and my two girls.
