@Substantial6187 They are fundamentally so different. Islam gives full authority to the words of God through Mohamed, this is not flexible, but the interpretation of it somewhat is. Buddhists do not give authority to the Buddha, it is a religion of the self, the text is meant as a guidance.

why are some religions open to change like buddhism (sangha can change the rules upon agreement) and some closed off like islam ?

Auswandern ist trotzdem keine Lösung für jeden. Hongkong-Firma sauber gründen, Wohnsitz wechseln, deutsche Rückkehrabsicht klären, ein Jahr Aufbau bis das System steht. Das ist kein Klick auf einen Button. Aber es existiert. Während ich das tippe sitzen Leute in Berlin und Brüssel und überlegen wie hoch der Spitzensatz noch steigen darf bevor die letzten Leistungsträger das Land verlassen. Sie schreiben Papiere darüber. It seems like most cultures have what is required for philosophy but simply cannot get past the control system of their ancestors.

Here's the best way to answer the question: What other population has a super-high IQ but HASN'T produced philosophers (or has rapidly and ruthlessly killed any that MAY have showed up to the point where there are no remaining records of their substantive work)? East Asians (Chinese, Japanese, Koreans). They share MANY Western qualities such as superb mathematical and spatial reasoning, industriousness, focus, careful planning and strategic competence, determination, commitment, insane levels of bravery in combat, etc. What are they missing though (considered en masse of course)? Whimsical and playful curiosity, dangerous experimentation, a related willingness to be disgraced and humiliated, an insatiable drive to discover the hidden and open new frontiers, radical individualism, and a rebellious defiance of tradition. (In short, all the main qualities of Prometheus and Faust.) There's your recipe, combined with all the traits that East Asians DO share with Westerners. These characteristics, on a population-wide level, are the sine qua non for a notable production of philosophers in any society.

There are almost NO philosophers outside the West. Abhinavagupta falls short for the lack of a political philosophy. Obviously also Nagarjuna, whose range is even more limited. Nishida possibly qualifies. Zakariya Razi is a real candidate, but Muslims destroyed most of his work.
