The #1 email I got following the release of the game (After, "die! die! die!" etc. etc.) was asking why their game was broken after they entered the Distortion World. I would always ask "Have you tried turning your game back on?". I hope everyone enjoyed it.

Platinum Kaizo Distortion World. If you were to look under the hood, you would see that there are 5 boys floating in space. You can't see them, so they don't really exist. But they are there. If you haven't seen the Distortion World in PK yet, don't spoil yourself.

The finished product took about a month of continuous work. The Distortion World is notoriously tricky to change without breaking the game, with maps, scripts, NPCs...Many design choices in PK weren't decided on in a vacuum, but were instead fun solutions to practical problems.

...For new players. If I had a bit more forsight, I'd have made the bounty timer a lot longer. We played it by ear and ended up giving a smaller bounty to the person who beat Gardenia first, but it took quite a while. (For those curious, Udai ended up being the first.)

2 nights before the unofficial launch, and the opening day race: Here I am making the Wanted poster for Gardenia. I just poured some coffee over a crumpled up piece of paper, and put it next to a blast fan...I severely underestimated how tricky the early game would be (Cont.)

Gardenia's gym in Pokemon Platinum Kaizo. This gym started the trend of trying to have a unique angle for each gym. Gardenia's gym is one of two where the angle is focused entirely on the battles. A common question I see is "Why was MILTOIC chosen?" Look closely here.

My favorite little trick, was getting the Poketch to function as your dowsing machine. I'm really happy the Poketch is used as a way to solve a puzzle. This works by putting a blank hidden item script underneath a real script trigger, making it both interactable and detectable.

The Platinum Kaizo Underground. BDSP is the worst game I've ever played, and the reason I got involved with PK in the first place. But if there was one thing I liked from that game, it was the new Underground. Byron's gym was heavily based on the in between rooms from that game.

One of the many "magic" (cheap) tricks we use to achieve certain effects...The Underground is all 1 area, so the entrances and exits to each room switch out which encounter table is being used. The main part of the UG used to spawn only DUGTRIO, but that got axed at some point.

...The gym is also unique in that the solution will be different for every player, since the correct room is randomized for each save. It also contains the largest Plush-WAILORD in human history!

The entire map is seamless, thanks in large part to reusing the original Underground's layout...However, It was very tough to get all the different in between rooms to work together. This gym doesn't run very well on original hardware...Hoping to fix that!

@NeoApollo_ Had to pick one of the two monster sized gyms to optimize. I chose the Underground since it was already an established Gen 4 mechanic, and much of the game was paying tribute to all of the games base mechanics.

Platinum Kaizo Cut Content: Snowpoint Gym. The gym used to be a massive Ice puzzle, where you'd have to "complete" the puzzle by pushing around a Strength boulder like a curling stone. It was the size of about 15 map matrices (For reference, Jubilife City is 4).

Unfortunately, there were a lot of scripting and object issues (Probably due to how large the area was). I had to choose between getting this area to work, or the Underground. I chose the Underground.

I even made these little Ice ramps you could ride your bike over...The Bike in Gen 4 has some interesting interactions with the games Ice mechanics.

@NeoApollo_ I'll be posting lots of these on my Youtube and here as well. There's a lot that didn't make the cut.

@MrKeating17 Are there any other cool examples you have to show us some neat things about the development process? 👀

June 11th, 2022, was when Platinum Kaizo development "officially" began. I didn't know dick about fuck back then. The game changed a lot over time. But one thing that never changed was the first team we ever tested; Jupiter 1.

Someone said "Accelerock" was misspelled...I thought there was no way... way... I will not develop any more games until I learn how to spell.

(This was the thumbnail...) Some things went through lots of trial and error, but Jupiter 1 had 0 changes since day 1 almost 4 years ago. Some things work, and you go "Good". Shamone.
