This isn't rose colored glasses. The internet really was better in the past before a small handful of corporations gobbled everything up. It used to be unbelievably good. The Internet Archive is one of the last vestiges of an era where the internet served people. Don't let it die

@Acerola_t Not exactly the same but EA basically killed Respawn forcing them to release Titanfall 2 after two biggest releases of the year (CoD IW and fucking Battlefield 1) practically killing any revenue that game can generate.

I wonder how many other games have been crashed and burned for the sole purpose of avoiding what was agreed to be paid out if a certain level of success was achieved, this sort of contract is really common in the industry.

The CEO of Krafton (creator of PUBG) asked ChatGPT to create a "corporate takeover strategy" to prevent a company they acquired from hitting a revenue target within a certain time window (which would trigger an additional payout). ChatGPT (against his lawyer's advice) suggested locking down the acquired companies Steam account to prevent them from publishing Subnautica 2 in the time window, which the CEO of Krafton followed. ChatGPT's advice did not hold up at trial and the judge was not happy. The opinion is a wild read and includes several direct quotes from the Krafton CEO's ChatGPT conversation. I feel like it's gonna take a few more high profile examples like this until executives start realizing that conversations with ChatGPT are not privileged and you probably shouldn't describe your questionably legal schemes to them in detail!

@Ravenger___ because its probably arguably one of the easiest to get into
it already has maps and models in it from popular pre existing games, lighting in most maps are already baked in, doesn't require much pre existing knowledge of animation software to get into it

maybe this is idiosyncratic, but learning about Éric Rohmer's personal life—the fact that he was a devout Catholic, that he hid his filmmaking career from his mother, that he never cheated on his wife—really turned me off his films

@Rooflemonger Remember playing Lineage 2 and there was a quest for lizard tails if i remember correctly. Drop rate was so horrendous that i get lvlup just for killing mobs for that quest. I quit L2 right after this.

This is accurate but as an mmo oldhead you gotta understand this was also by far the mosy user friendly and least time wasting mmo ever.
Like in everquest you'd kill 3 mobs and then sit for actual 10 mins to get your mana back lol. Wow was basically revolutionary for the time.

@3kliksphilip @ZooL_Smith This game has some really good ideas but the missions either boring or really short and because of that most of features in the game just not really work together. I remember liking it but there was just not enough unique stuff to do sadly.

@ZooL_Smith I tried so many times to love Far Cry 2 but it never worked for me. The malaria tablet / gun jamming mechanics were annoying, the world felt weirdly corridor-y and everybody was so aggressive, cars in the distance suddenly doing U turns to ram straight into me. How do they know?!

The downfall of gimmicks in AAA games needs to be studied.
I'm joking, it's just companies cutting corners and the industry burning, stop supporting western AAA studios, buy indie.
