It's where I started my now 14 year (and counting) teaching career. Even the most challenging students usually just want to know you want to be there with them and that you like to talk with them not at them. Also each of them deserve a fresh start day. No grudges.

the two main things you need to know: 1. those kids are gonna pull your arms and legs off for the next two or three years 2. as long as you make it clear every day that you wanna be in that particular classroom with those particular kids things are gonna work out okay for you

This weekend's IB conference in Vancouver and my new school's commitment to offering IB Global Politics, has me as excited to teach as I've been in a long time. Having kids explore what they care about in politics is incredibly invigorating.

@HogueCM Never understood this. There’s so many benefits to kids playing multiple sports. Loved hearing one of my basketball players telling me the other day he was going to try soccer in the spring just for fun.

Idk if I’ve ever heard a coach say that verbatim but coaches pressure kids to put more and more time into the one sport.
These coaches manipulate kids into thinking their sport or product is the most important and only one to play and kids follow.

We do this with every subject. In what career do you only do History without Language Arts? Science without Math?Programs like the Innovation Academy in Lima, @fdrinnovate are the future of schools. It's true within disciplines and transfiscplinary. @cvtopf

Incredibly troubling trend. We had several of these at schools I've worked at recently. Trends of threats of violence, destruction of property (devious licks), and general foolishness harms learning. We wonder why there's a massive teacher shortage.

Can we please stop trying to make Hurricane Ian political? The 'Did Biden call DeSantis or not?' 'Will Republicans need government handouts now?' etc. Every single topic doesn't have to come down to Republican vs Democrat. Some people are in real danger. We don't need hot takes.
