"Cobra" was released on this day in 1986. Outstanding action/thriller (based on the Paula Gosling novel) from director George P. Cosmatos and screenwriter Sylvester Stallone. Marion Cobretti is one of Stallone's greatest cinematic creations. From the costume to the car to the attitude, this is one unforgettable movie cop. Decades later, Stallone said he regretted not paying more attention to this character. He believed "Cobra" should have become a film series. I believe he's right. "Cobra" was a box office hit worldwide (especially in Japan), grossing over 8 times its production budget. It was also enormously successful on home video and cable. Filled with terrific stunts, fun action sequences and a memorable villain, "Cobra" is (arguably) Stallone's most underrated movie. One of my ten favorite films of 1986.
