Learning is so beautiful. Tracking students by perceived ability…not so beautiful. I’m glad my children attend @hightechhigh where students learn with each other + from each other + tracking is not allowed.

What I wonder is… What would it look like for schooling itself to be so healthy, so engaging, so joy-full that we did not have to rely on downstream reactive care?

I’m not an academic, but if I were I wouldn’t bar my students from using ChatGPT in their work (not that they’d comply anyway). Instead, I’d insist submitted papers reflect (1) interesting, well-argued ideas, (2) stylistic competence, and (3) proper citation. In other words, I’d insist on the same standards I’d follow regardless of whether AI were involved. And to the extent AI might benefit their work, I’d probably grade them more severely for not taking adequate advantage of it. I say this, again, not as an academic but as a professional editor.
