A 1948 newesrheel of "hop-pickers" from London travelling out to Kent in order to cultivate and procure the much needed ingredient for Britain's beer. This clip includes the type of tradition, smiles, and hope that seem to have withered in recent years. ⏳️

Bridget Phillipson invites Gemma Collins into the Department for Education to film a glossy new promo video, but the visit soon descends into absolute chaos. Presumably an effort to distract from Keir Starmer’s political flatulence. {satire}

William Hill's ante-post book for the 1979 Derby, showing liabilities for each horse. Only credit clients bets are shown and not the huge volume of betting the firm would accommodate on course and in their betting shops...

Random but keep being asked for winners…don’t ask me! 🇫🇮 Finding the exchange absolutely impossible to tolerate. Think greyhound racing has an unforeseen issue coming on top of the rest of the current issues that nobody has spoken about. Possibly already happening to a degree, gambling kennels to struggle to make ends meet imo going forwards. Might as well use my actual figures, 2026 I’ve managed £865,000 stakes, and haven’t won a penny, in fact I’ve lost £3,150, which puts ROI at somewhere less than 1% after comm, whatever. My downfall driven by less and less money available to match my bets making my average price received worse, theoretical examples now from Sheffield…2023 if you are trying to lay £400 @ 6.0 you’d be matched by 7.0 for a couple of bags liability no issues. Fast forward to now genuinely if you want £400 against a 6.0 dog you’d be lucky to have all your money done by 9.0 (try it yourself or tell me im wrong) I am obviously different to gambling kennels in terms of the way I’d bet a card, I am pretty steady, they are giving it the short sharp strokes (presumably) as you would, but the point im trying to make still stands on the basis the exchange X Matcher/ecosystem doesn’t know or care who you are, there’s little there to be won now. I guess careful how I phrase this…lets say for whatever reason someone is confident a dog won’t be winning. You’d now genuinely be lucky to get more than a few hundred quid a lay average without questions being asked (again X Matcher super efficient). Or try the reverse of getting a dog “readied” for a big run, sure you’ll get a bit more down but its hard to get a dog to win a race if your life depends on it! I think the game will be left with those that love the game/happy to run for run money and are happy with what they have in life, got loads of respect for that. Back onto me, the other obvious uncovered solution is to try and back dogs instead rather than lay. Ok then you try and back dogs round Sheff off the show price or into an efficient market with a minute to run, GL. Or try and recycle through SOFT bookmaker accounts betting early prices averaging in 2026… err £500-£1000 an account and fcking around with all the admin that comes with it, again GL not for me. Try a diff track? Sure I can’t be chewed on (Doncaster is brilliant on a Sat night but more from a viewing than punting perspective get yourself down). The old “evolve or die” quote goes through your head. Yeah sure, the issue with that is you have to badly fcking want it to evolve yourself, a wise head (on here actually) said this game gets to everyone eventually, you will have your turn don’t worry, wasn’t wrong, here we are. This probably looks like a bit of main character syndrome, close your door on the way out etc bla. Fully aware me betting or not betting at Sheffield 4 times a week wont change anything at all, just an observation, interested to know what way others that probably know more than me where the game is heading. Anyway off topic, what next for me? Bought 3/4 dogs to run Sheff to give something back/stay in the game, I’ll get down to whinge about the grading /drink £6 Coors Light… and bet randomly. Then try and attend all the big nights of racing, probably a bit deep, but if you think about the game and what makes you happy, it isn’t having a monkey on t3 winner at 4/1 because you made it 3.2845 and getting the sweets on the forecast, its attending these big final nights and dare I say the ones you’ll miss once the game is finished. You may find this unbelievable but @jeffedelstein has obtained a transcript of the discussion between Kalshi and the National Council on Problem Gambling that led to the prediction market giant joining the group that works to — in its words — “minimize the economic and social costs associated with gambling addiction.” Take a look:

🚨🇬🇧 Andy Burnham’s Greater Manchester authority funnelled hundreds of millions in public loans to developer Renaker. They built luxury skyscrapers packed with penthouses. Barely any affordable homes delivered. The tycoon takes £40m+ dividends and relocates to Monaco. This is champagne socialism in action. Public cash for private luxury under Burnham. Andy Burnham has serious questions to answer. @KarenQuinn1973 #AndyBurnham #Manchester #HousingScandal #TaxpayerCash

The Government is potentially in contempt of Parliament. By failing to publish unredacted documents, they are failing to abide by the Humble Address on Lord Mandelson's appointment as our Ambassador to the US. This is unacceptable, and unless the Government stops the obfuscation, I will raise the matter as a matter of contempt. I reminded the House that the now PM, Keir Starmer, established a precedent for this in December 2018, when he secured a motion holding the then-Government in contempt.

BREAKING: A Memphis man has been arrested after allegedly scratching off EVERY SINGLE scratch-off ticket at a Germantown Exxon while working the register… because apparently his retirement strategy was “manifesting.” According to police, 32-year-old Lemonjello Washington decided the Tennessee Lottery was basically a giant reimbursement program. Witnesses say he spent the entire overnight shift scratching tickets like a raccoon that found a Red Bull and a quarter. The plan? Simple. Scratch all the tickets. Use the winning tickets to pay for the losing tickets. Pocket the profit. Become Memphis royalty. Unfortunately, investigators say the math “collapsed almost immediately,” which experts are calling “the most Shelby County Schools thing ever.” Police say Lemonjello confidently told officers: “Y’all don’t understand… eventually one of these gone hit.” Sir. That is not investing. That is emotional support gambling. Things became suspicious around 3:17 AM when customers walked in asking for scratch-offs and Lemonjello allegedly replied: “We fresh out… but spiritually we up right now.” By sunrise, the counter reportedly looked like a confetti cannon exploded inside a bankruptcy hearing. Losing tickets were stacked knee-high. The only big winner was the Exxon trash can. Authorities say the total losses exceeded several thousand dollars, while total winnings amounted to: • 3 free tickets • $11 • and a coupon for a free Mountain Dew. 🤣🤣🤣

Since we’re discussing insane uses of British state resources I’d like to remind people that the Manchester Arena bomber used his mother’s (fraudulently received) benefit money to buy the bomb parts. She was still getting £2,200 a month from us despite having moved back to Libya.

No single journalist did more to undermine Keir Starmer than when Tom snuck into No.10 behind the back of his comms team to get Starmer to admit he hadn't read the "Island of Strangers" speech, don't believe in it, and was dumping it - then splashed it in the Guardian.
Times Radio@TimesRadio

“Journalists need to take some responsibility and have a good look at themselves about the way they behaved in the last few weeks.” The UK media has contributed to the country’s “addiction” to “booting out” unpopular PMs that is making “stable long term government” impossible, says Keir Starmer’s biographer Tom Baldwin.
