These images are literally night and day! The Artemis II crew took the left photo on their way to the Moon. It shows Earth at night, lit only by moonlight, using long exposure camera settings. The photo from Apollo 17 shows Earth’s surface during the day, lit by sunlight.

The holidays are over and the New Year has begun. The good news? Sunsets are now later, & the amount of daylight is increasing! The bad news? Over the next week or so, sunrises will be later. After mid-Jan? Daylight increases exponentially!

The preeminent ECMWF weather model is forecasting a record-breaking ridge of high pressure in the Northeast U.S. later next week 💪 🟡 Called a "600 decameter ridge", these monstrous highs are a relatively rare summertime visitor to the central and western U.S. but have not been recorded over the Northeast U.S. — yet. Because air expands and rises as it warms, this ridge pumps higher up into the atmosphere. The height of the ridge is related to the temperature of the atmosphere. In this case, the height of the 500 hPa pressure level is forecast to reach 6 kilometers or 3.7 miles. ⏫ Described another way, the ridge is forecast to be about as tall as 16 Empire State Buildings stacked on top of one another! It remains to be seen just how hot it gets under this noteworthy ridge and if it indeed reaches 600 decameters, but 100+ degree temperatures appear possible for parts of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic later next week...

Another technique for @Wapplax Face-off guys to work on this year. What are you doing this off-season to make the team better?

@GerryCarlin One revived the idea (Aristarchus originally proposed), one provided the observable evidence, another changed the orbits to better explain it all and then one came along and proved them all correct

“Are you smarter than a 6th grader?” Before this scientist's work, people in Europe widely believed that the Earth was the center of the universe around which all other planets and stars revolved.
