@CbgMar5 slashes to the hoop for a bucket & @Jbtheballer22 crashes the glass to score a passionate and-one for @LadyPhoenixBB Renaissance holds a 21-20 lead after three. It's been a defensive battle with both teams contesting shots, making easy looks tough to come by. @MHSAA D1 State Final @PGHMichigan

Game 2: Detroit Renaissance and DeWitt stayed within 1 possession of each other for the entire 1st half with 8 lead changes. DeWitt took a 17-14 edge into the break. Renaissance locked in defensively and held DeWitt to 2 points over the first 12 minutes of the 2nd half as they went on a 14-2 to make it 28-19, highlighted by back-to-back steals and scores by Maria Walker. Sophia Beland scored on a floater off a drive along the baseline and then stole the inbounds pass for a layup. As Renaissance attempted to run clock, Beland got a steal on the ball, pushed it up court, and found Jaynie English on the right wing for a 3 to pull DeWitt within 28-26. Walker drove the lane and fed Jayla Adams for a layin around 1:50. Beland hit a short pull up on the right baseline to cut it to 2 again on the next possession. Renaissance ran the clock down as DeWitt played for steals and eventually DeWitt had to foul. Renaissance missed 4 FTs between 0:45 and 0:29, but Jayla Adams and Alehia Wade collected offensive rebounds to keep the ball with Renaissance. On their 3rd trip to the FT line, Kassidy Cain cashed in on both FTs with 0:15.3 remaining. After a defensive stop, Renaissance ran out the clock to take a hard-fought 32-28 victory and advance to face Muskegon in the Division 1 championship game. Soph Maria Walker (pictured, #1) had 6 points during Detroit Renaissance's big run, including the back-to-back scoop-&-scores, as well as the key assist after DeWitt had cut it to 2. She finished with 8 points and 5 steals. Sr Jaebri'an Autry had a team-high 9 points, while 6' soph Jayla Adams led the way with 9 rebounds. Sr Sophia Beland (pictured, #14) played huge down the stretch as DeWitt clawed their way back into it; she led all scorers with 10. Jr Golden Nicholson (pictured, #24) added 9 points and 6 rebounds, while jr Jaynie English hit a pair of 3s for 6 points with 5 rebounds and 4 steals. . @Coach_McKinney I agree that there should be a shot clock but how about instead of Renaissance “stalls” it’s DeWitt refused to pressure the ball 🤷‍♀️. Basketball is a strategy game just like they played a packed in zone all game but guess we aren’t going to talk about that 🙄

Division 1 Girls State Semi-Finals between DeWitt and Renaissance - First possession of the 4th quarter and Renaissance stalls for a minute & 30 seconds…But we don’t need a shot clock cause we can’t find people to work it? Do better for the athletes!
