"Success breeds success, but it doesn't happen overnight. There needs to be time for learning, training, instruction, and practice." @BrookhartDawn during today's #IMSE presentation.

An acronym that @BrookhartDawn and I describe in our upcoming @BrookesPubCo book: F-I-I-T. You might start with "F" (Free up) - abandoning initiatives that are ineffective, redundant, or unable to be adopted at this time. Involve teachers in this conversation.

Systems often fail at large-scale changes because of a lack of training, little to no piloting of the change before scaling up, lack of a clear plan, and little involvement in long-term planning from teachers (Adelman & Taylor). How well does your system do with systemic change?

When districts remove/reduce funding for instructional coaching, I think there's much more to reflect on. What were coaches supposed to do in the first place? Too often the role is unclear and becomes a "catch-all" quasi, administrator role. This doesn't work!

As I've been away from posting and dealing with immediate concerns at home, I'm realizing how few people seem to know how to listen. Why are others so quick to offer solutions when they don't really know the problem? It's exhausting! Is this what a teacher deals with?

"Coaching is non-directive because change needs to come from the person who wants to change." "Change is a lot easier if there is an attractive pull (i.e., towards motivation) rather than a punitive push (i.e., away from motivation)." @InstofCoaching Coaching in Today's World

When fixing problems kills personal development - beginning a coaching conversation with a focus on one's ideal self and developing/building on their individual's strengths rather than their weaknesses. frontiersin.org/journals/human…

Leadership matters!! All the more reason to focus and involve leaders in deep learning. They deserve time to study, see demonstrations, and practice to effectively guide their teachers. ⁦@CarlaMcNeil1#dyslexiacon
