Here you are again, down talking North Carolinians. Those people in that picture were the backbone of the middle class that rose from their work. And all you and other Democrats can do is look down on them. That is why your type of leftists are never happy and you have to tear down everything around you. I hope you will one day find peace and turn from the dark side.

This is a young North Carolina family in 1939 in front of their home near Chapel Hill. They were sharecroppers. That home, and the land around it, weren't theirs - it belonged to their landlord. If they didn't pay the onerous rent, and debts incurred from growing, they'd be kicked out and made homeless. This is much closer to the reality of life in North Carolina back in the "old days." It wasn't even remotely close to the internet meme of a man going off to a secure, high-paying factory job while a happy housewife raised their kids at home, with a car in the garage and family vacations - it was tenuous, and uncertain, and poor. Life back in the old days was hard. And this family was white, meaning they had basic civil rights in the North Carolina of 1939. Black ones did not, and their lot was often much worse. Don't misunderstand: there was a lot of good back in those days too. A huge amount of human spirit, hard work, faith and grit. A lot we can learn from today. But nostalgia is a powerful psychological force on humans, and has a tendency to erase the bad and just leave the good. Things weren't great back then. People are freer, richer, and much better educated today - and that's a good thing.

Even if Trump is "bluffing," the US may never come back from this. Whether you voted for him or not, the rest of the world sees this guy as our collective will. To everyone else, we are a landmass teeming with viciousness. We have a very high bar to prove that's not true.

Trump's threats to destroy Iranian civilization are a gift to the regime. They will alienate even its fiercest opponents, who believe the Islamic Republic has spent decades erasing 2500 years of Iranian civilization. It's malpractice for the U.S. president to threaten the same.

The hate for this tweet comes from exactly the people you'd expect - who are just proving the point better than we could ever make it. No one owns being "North Carolinian." We're a big, diverse state full of people from different backgrounds. It's always been that way. It's so obvious it's silly to even argue about. The better question: do you believe in a big, strong, confident North Carolina where everyone has a place? Or a small, weak, shriveled state that's scared of outsiders and new stuff? We know what side we - and most of us - are on. 😄
