How I understand Nietzsche’s passage on the abyss: Given Nietzsche’s distinct individualism within existential discourse, I believe he is expressing the staring back of the abyss as the realization of absolute freedom. We stare into nothingness with the hope that something will manifest that serves as a liberator to our angst and ennui. However, when the abyss stares back, we are not faced with the enlightenment of salvation. Instead, we are faced with a terrifying reality in which we are absolutely free. There are no gods or demons invested in the everydayness of human affairs. It is only us. Only the human condition. What good we see in this world is what we put into it. What evil we experience is the cultivation of our own works. The stare of the abyss is our own reflection, and we realize that our liberation is contingent on our will, our resolve to cope with the human condition and to do something to make our existence meaningful.

Still, it doesn’t change the fact that the vast majority of #ncpol gets priced out on representation.
