@Prof_Flowers I agree with the first and last, but for the middle I don’t think there’s equitable access to those positions. They don’t exist at all schools and even when they do getting the role can be so reliant on politics and favoritism.

@rhymes_melody @sage_stage Basically because waiting their turn in a supervised classroom is better than waiting their turn in an unsupervised hallway or restroom. They're waiting their turn either way but one way maintains safety and order better.

@sage_stage Why can’t a kid go to the bathroom when they have to go? Are we talking high school?

Kid is third in line to use the hall pass. But she wants to go now. So she texts mom, who calls the school, who calls my room and tells me to let her go. Hope they like getting 50 phone calls a class period.

@sage_stage @myweirdthought and kids who have purely good intentions will end up getting pulled into problems. Sending one at a time protects the kids.

@myweirdthought Then what? I've never had a physical fight while on bathroom duty, but even with a line of 5 people there's been drama and arguments between people who don't think they should have to wait their turn. Add another couple dozen of kids to the line, then what

@aimeeu2 @sage_stage DEFINITELY agree that kids should have bathroom access as needed. However allowing only one person at a time from any given class is a reasonable limit to keep things running smoothly.

@macsmom Look into a minisplit system!

@JayWamsted Oral/Handwritten could definitely work for some things but handwriting is torture for lots of kids with disabilities or neurodiversity.

Using AI tools to detect AI in classroom assignments is a hamster wheel where everyone loses How amazing would it be to go back to more oral and handwritten work? Get away from computers altogether for most assignments?

I’ve been wearing a CGM for like a month and biggest thing I’ve learned is my liver is REALLY good at making sugar at the slightest provocation. Like “don’t worry, I got you.” Gotta stay in shape to flee the Russians and survive the winter.

@peachlemonbee Forget about the general ridiculousness of the rule for a moment: How does a chemistry teacher manage this while following lab safety? I'd be using a clip pony or braid everyday or shave my head 🤷‍♀️

I would love a school where teachers teach 50% of their day and then have 50% remaining for planning, prep, assessing, collaboration, and research (along with lunch). Thoughts?
