Mrs McCartney & P3

We had so much fun making flatbread yesterday! We have been learning about Egyptian farming, jobs and the importance of the Nile for crops. We made flatbread following a recipe and worked hard to knead our dough. Today we wrote our recipe following the structure of a procedure.

We have been learning about Egyptian clothes, wigs, jewellery and make up! We looked at sources to find out what Egyptians wore and compared it today what we wear today. We made these amazing Egyptian collar necklaces by painting pasta and cutting out the correct shapes.

Last week as part of our Laudato Si day we focused on Goal 5: Ecological Education as well as several of our Global Goals. We discussed the impact we have on our planet and how we can take care of it. We created this artwork to think about keeping our oceans clean #globalgoals

Today in Ancient Egypt we were learning about the importance of farming. We learnt about irrigation and the shaduf which was a tool farmers used when watering their crops. We then had a 15 minute challenge to build a shaduf using classroom materials!

P3 won our class competition and chose a movie afternoon for their reward! They enjoyed watching ‘Luca’ in their pyjamas with lots of lovely snacks. Well done P3!

Today was our Language Rotation! We learnt about lots of different languages. Mrs McCartney was teaching us some Russian greetings and our colours in Russian. We found different coloured items around the room, looked at the Russian alphabet and even saw a Russian doll!

For languages week we will be singing a song in Swahili. We made posters to show what the words mean and some of the countries where they speak Swahili. We found Tanzania and Kenya on a map too!

Today we had a bit of fun doing hot-seating! We pretended to be the characters in our books and created some questions to ask them. The children were excellent at creating questions using both their imagination and their understanding of their books.

Today we were investigating different types of texts in groups. We looked at poems, information reports, narratives, diaries and newspapers and identified their different features. We will look at some mystery texts next week and see if we can work out what they are!

We have begun our topic in Ancient Egypt! Yesterday we talked about the importance of the Nile for Egyptian life and how the flooding produced nutrient rich soil! We did an experiment by creating the Nile shape in flour and overflowing it’s banks to see what happened!

P5A started making clay Nessie sculptures today.

P3M have been working on their rolls in gymnastics. Yesterday we were practicing the teddy bear roll. We worked with a partner back to back to roll together at the same time!

We did our final @LEGO_Group Talk and Build discussing Screen Time. We talked about how too much screen time made us feel and why grown ups do what is best for us by sometimes putting limits on our screen time. We built ‘Many Screen Mangrove’ and glasses to protect our eyes!

@LEGO_Group Talk and Build was today as we discussed Screen Time. We thought about how going on screens for a long time makes us feel: tired, sore heads and grumpy with those who have told us to stop! P3 thought of all the things they love to do when they’re not on screens!

Today we had our Rights Respecting Rotation. We were learning about Article 28: I have the right to an education. We talked about how learners and teachers work together. We talked about what a good learner looked like and sounded like. Then we drew and labelled them!

Today we were learning about cyberbullying. We used @LEGO_Group ‘Talk and Build’ to go on an adventure. P3 had some brilliant discussions and ideas around what cyber bullying is, why people might be mean online, what we can do to stop it and our own experiences.

The children of P3 gave a ‘Real Gift’ of a goat this Christmas after discussions on giving to people who needed things more than us this Christmas. We had a lot of fun naming our goat and decided on ‘Gloria!’ @sciaf kindly sent us some pictures so we could see some of the goats!

We had so much fun at our Christmas Party yesterday. We all looked very cool and enjoyed, dancing, playing games and having snacks back in class!

Our beautiful Christmas trees are up on the wall! They’re all beautiful and different showing our creativity! We enjoyed talking in our circle time today about what our families do at Christmas and what we’re looking forward to.

Today we were painting Christmas trees using forks! It was good fun and a little challenging compared to what we’re used to. We are using a mix of media, with tissue paper baubles and gold pastel stars. We will finish our trees once they fully dry
