Exciting (but still daunting!) announcements. Following opting for voluntary redundancy in order to embark on a new challenge, I am looking for a new role and and I am officially launching my consultancy business. Part 1: What can I offer an organisation? 1/

Year 8 debating the Benin Bronzes was the highlight of my Thursday 🙌 Passionate arguments, excellent points reflecting on art, culture and history. I definitely need to plan more into the Year 8 lessons.

Introduced Year 7 and Year 8 to one of my favourite recall starters- find and fix! A mixture of literacy and historical errors. A resource shared on Twitter a few years ago (apologies I cannot remember the original tweeter) that is one of my go tos 🙌🙌🙌

After successful years of building a culture of T&L in my current post, I am actively looking for a new challenge from January 1st. The new challenges could involve: - Assistant/Dep Head - Trust Lead/Director of T&L / PD - Teaching Hub/Research School roles RTs appreciated

@M80405Watts Hi, I usually do precise questions but found that my lower end students struggled with the questions and became demotivated at the start of the lesson so I’m trying to leave it more open to basic recall, but I could do an open question.

@MrsRCliffe Hi Rachel, I like this. What about having a precise question/completion in each box so you can make sure they know what you want them to know and what they need to know. You could then have an Also,... to allow the stretch and independent recall too. What do you think?

Trialling some new low stakes retrieval with Year 11- a piece of knowledge from each 4 topics so far and students tell me a fact. Hoping it helps with basic recall but also stretches the top end students to independently recall specific facts/dates 🧠

@SoLInTheWild Thank you! It’s on our exam specification for knowledge/evidence so within an answer using evidence.

Three lessons with Year 11, three different types of retrieval ✍️ An independent task recalling Year 10 knowledge as we start mid-way through a unit, quick owner recall on the current topic and time period sorting for a Year 10 topic they struggled with in the last Y10 assessment

@mrwmhistory We use homework booklets in KS4 and it definitely makes homework easier to set, consistent each week and we go over them at the start of the lesson when it’s due. They are all focused on revision so create revision guides once completed.

Posing a question that I've definitely asked before, but need some more help! For History GCSE classes, what is your approach to homework? Looking for a consistent/regular/accessible system that leverages progress whilst being workload manageable! All ideas welcome. Please share!

@MrBensonNMS Yes, they did it in black and then we discussed and they added extra thoughts in green- they knew the question they would be answering from the start so it helped make their notes more purposeful.

Got the classic Cold War thermometer out this week to show changing tensions during the Cold War. Also tried to push Year 9s with comparison of events to stretch explanation ✍️🌡️
