Guided meditation has become a daily practice in my classroom by Ss request! They love @calm as much as I do. #teambcsd #SEL

I receive a call from our receptionist, a parent has arrived and is very cross. I'm unsure, but I head down to greet her and welcome her to my office. She's really upset. She points the finger at school. It's all our fault and her heart is on her sleeve. This is hard. I offer her a seat. I sit next to her, not behind my desk, I listen and I see the opportunity. And then I agree with her. She's surprised. After talking to her friends the night before on Facebook, she didn't expect this. As we talk, things calm and we see that this is not the fault of anyone. We find common ground and agree on things. She even smiles and tells me that 'he's no angel either'. As she leaves, I let her know that I will find out more and then call her to talk again. She thanks me. I'm reminded that it's hard to know the best way when your child means so much to you.

@MrZachG I just posted something similar. And I don’t believe teachers do this intentionally. I think it takes seeing yourself teaching and/or others in a peer visit to understand what it’s like when students “sit and get” majority of the time.

I’m not on the “if the teachers just made lessons more engaging, kids wouldn’t want to misbehave” side of things, but there are definitely times when poor planning, slow pace, and infrequent opportunities to respond are influencing bad behavior.

To boost comprehension, try asking students to struggle with key concepts before teaching the correct solutions. (But use this strategy carefully to avoid frustration.)

I was inspired to read the comments in this thread. Although teaching expertise matters, strong relationships are priority for parents. My passion are those authentic connections - caring comes first!

As a #parent what is the number one thing you look for a teacher for your child? #education

Poorly delivered feedback can make things worse not better, so coaches need to understand the nuances of feedback. This article is my latest thinking on the topic: ascd.org/el/articles/sh…

Videos reveal exactly how you're using your time in your classroom. Use them to help you adjust how you're allocating your time to ensure that you are focusing on the right priorities.

People rarely want advice. They want empathy. They don’t want to hear about you. They don’t want to be fixed. They want to be heard.

Belief is kinda like MC Hammer. Sure, you can’t touch it, but it’s still super infectious.

If children only sharpen their brains at school, there’s no guarantee they won’t go on to make trouble. To balance their keen brains, they need a warm heart. The more compassionate they learn to be, the more useful members of society they’re likely to become.
