The state of Georgia just audited how teachers actually use AI. Not a vendor survey. An independent performance audit from the Georgia Department of Audits and Accounts. Here is what they found: 58% of Georgia teachers have used @magicschoolai. Second only to the consumer brand of ChatGPT. Ahead of Gemini. Ahead of Copilot. Ahead of Claude. Google put Gemini on every Chromebook in America. Microsoft baked Copilot into the software districts already pay for. These are the two companies with the deepest reach in all of K-12, sitting on effectively unlimited distribution and trillion dollar balance sheets. And when an independent state auditor asked teachers what they actually reach for, more of them named the tool that a former teacher bootstrapped out of their living room in summer 2023 We did not get here by coming pre-installed. We got here because one teacher told another. Because it helped them on a Tuesday, when they were exhausted and still had thirty things left to do. I was that tired teacher once. That is the whole reason this company exists. Educators and school district leaders chose this. Before any PD session, staff meeting, or lesson, ask one question: "Would I want to sit through this?" If the answer is no, redesign it. If you wouldn't learn from it, they won't either. Empathy is the cheapest instructional design tool available.
