BBQ in the East Bay — Dinosaur ribs from Fikscue in Alameda — halal Texas barbecue, voted top 50 in the US by the New York Times and Texas Monthly. Get there early, they sell out.

Happy hour at Saison. The oysters and the croque monsieur. Like being in a Paris cafe only in SOMA.

I just put in a new @subzerowolf Wolf stove as part of the kitchen remodel. Man, that thing can BURN gas. I was feeling kind of bad about the effect this might have on our planet 185 years from now, and wasnt going to post a photo, but once I saw Kamala was down with it, I breathed a huge sigh of relief. Isn’t it a beauty?

@thomashawk What An amazing post. I attended SBCC and completed it in 2 years. I did not continue with college transfer (I regret that) but I knew what I wanted to be and did so successfully. I have 3 kids and I believe we will do the college route this way as well so they don't go broke.

I see a lot of these types of posts where California kids with near perfect GPAs can't get into UC or elite schools -- a lot of these posts seem to be about Asian kids. As a father with four children who did not have perfect GPAs in high school but still recently attended top 100 universities, let me show you a better path. TAG (transfer acceptance guarantee). In California if your child will attend a California community college and successfully get a minimum GPA (at UCSB it was 3.4) they will be GUARANTEED admission into the University of California, through this structured transfer program. My three oldest will all graduate(d) from UC Santa Barbara this year. My youngest did a similar transfer program, only through USC called the Trojan Transfer plan and is a junior at USC right now (fight on). What are the advantages of going this route? 1. You are guaranteed to get in. All UC universities offer TAG except for UCLA, UC Berkeley and UC San Diego. (you can still apply to those schools though). 2. Mostly what you are taking in community college are undergraduate general ed courses anyways. Frankly, you are better off taking these courses in a smaller community college class than in a 500 person lecture hall at UC. 3. It's MUCH cheaper. UC is a good deal as a public university, but community college is practically free in California. I hear a lot of people complaining about college debt and am not sure why more of them don't pursue the TAG program where you'd accumulate much less (if any) college debt. 4. If your child is ambitious they can get through their community college requirements MUCH faster. Many of the community college classes are online these days. While my oldest son took 4 years to graduate, my second oldest did college in 3 years and my third oldest did it in 2.5 years. This is why the two older ones graduated in June and number three graduates in Dec, all three in the same year. My kids loaded up and took a lot of online community college classes while still in high school and during summers and even continued taking many concurrently online while enrolled at UC Santa Barbara. 5. Community college doesn't have to mean living at home. Mine did their community college at Santa Barbara City College and moved down to Isla Vista still able to experience much of the "college experience" in that UC college town. Anyways, if you have high school kids in California and are distraught over the fact that your kids didn't get into top California schools, consider this path. At the end of the day the UC degree your kids receive is the EXACT same one as kids that were admitted as freshmen (it just costs much less). For my family it turned out to be a much better path than sending them to lesser ranked out of state or much more expensive out of state private colleges.

@JoJoFromJerz Sociopaths are con artists. The number of people they convince to do illegal things for them knows no bounds. They're master manipulators and get people to do their dirty work ... which often results in their enablers ending up in prison.
