@Ms_L_White Thank you for writing and sharing this. Point 5 about consequences is interesting. The most common consequences my intelligent, autistic child got: 1. Losing break time 2. Being sent out of the classroom 3. Exclusion. Until the only safe option was opting out.

In too many schools, "support" has become a quiet permission to step away from learning. Side rooms. Exit cards. Safe spaces. Extra adults. Somewhere along the way, we stopped asking the obvious question: why are we removing children from the very place where they’re meant to belong? it’s about US literacy education and how it has apparently shifted from being phonics-based to this completely bizarre ‘try to guess the word from context’ system that doesn’t work

As we head into End of Year exams season, it's worth revisiting a helpful technique: annotating exam questions. There's a growing body of evidence supporting its effectiveness. Here are some ways I use annotating along with some recent evidence. /🧵

Hi cycling twitter. I'm Michael, Helen's husband. As some of you may know Helen's last scan showed that the cancer has grown and is impacting kidney function. This means we have reached the end of the road for treatment and are focusing on keeping Helen comfortable.

Hello - I wrote a new blog about the teaching of whole class reading, which I haven't in a while. It's over 9000 words so quite a read, but I hope the comprehensive nature of it comes across as helpful, rather than patronising. Anyway - hope it's useful! mrboothy6.wordpress.com/2025/01/03/who…

@UnofficialOA My children's school has restorative conversations and exclusions and no in between. It's a nightmare, especially for SEN kids

@aqibishtiaq @Strickomaster There are indeed- punishment has become a dirty word and exclusions are rare in such schools. Scottish have been completely ruined. (Most schools still do a bit of both which is fine IMO).

If your school gets rid of sanctions and adopts an entirely ‘restorative’ approach, you can guarantee: - teacher blaming - poor relationship between SLT and Ts - worsened behavior Have a listen to myself and HT @Strickomaster open.spotify.com/episode/608OiR…

Who coaches you when you are alone? Do you coach yourself in 1st person (I can do it), 3rd person (you can do it) or not at all (no inner coaching voice)? RT, ❤️ and comments welcome.

Our wonderful neighbour has been helping us look after Samosa and Pakora for the last week. Checking in, feeding and locking them up at night. What would be a thoughtful gift that isn't just chocolates??? Help me out!

Why Means of Participation are so important, a tiny 🧵 First what are Means of Participation? They are intentionally installed routines for the common ways students will be expected to answer questions in class. Usually: Cold Call, Turn & Talk, Stop & Jot (Everybody Writes) Volunteers (taking hands) Call & Response Mini White Boards

@Positivteacha Works for everything. So if the kids had to find 27% of 352, quickest way is easily to do 27 x 352, which is 9504 and dividing by 100, to get 95.04. So 27% of 352 is 95.04.

One of my fave bits of maths every year is teaching the children to find percentages via finding 10%, 1%, 50% etc and adding together to make the % they need. Waiting till they've nailed it. Then showing they can also just multiply both numbers together and divide it by 100.
