I’m selected to testify at Mamdani’s #RentalRipoffHearing this Sat. I’ll speak up about unethical practices of NYC’s largest supportive housing provider @BrGround, who receives $80 mil/yr from NYC. I’ll let @NYCMayor know that the taxpayer is the one getting the biggest ripoff.

@graham_schmidt Agreed. But what I can't understand is: Why not make those discounts available to all. Why restrict only to certain identities?

@graham_schmidt Those are positive, inclusive aims on the part of PH. But wouldn't it make more sense to offer the discount based on income rather than race? (Such as by showing a SNAP or Medicaid card, for example.)

@KarmaKinetics @libsoftiktok If the motivation was economic, wouldn't it make more sense to provide the discount to people with Medicaid or SNAP EBT cards, rather than people of certain skin colors?

JUST IN: Playwrights Horizons theater is being SUED by a musician after they reportedly offered discounts only to Black people to attend a performance during "BIPOC night." White attendees reportedly spent nearly $90 per ticket while "BIPOC" attendees only had to spend $39 per ticket. This is racism. They’re about to FAFO so hard!

@kaypuffz Racism certainly exists in 2025. Do you think the employer is asking about racial diversity?

Help me out here. I thought the word "diverse" denoted differences amongst a group or range. So as an individual applicant, how could I possibly identify my own diversity without knowledge of the rest of the applicant pool? And diversity of WHAT?

Just caught @DouglasTaurel in 'The American Solider' @NYReptheatre. With nuance, humor, and heart, he portrays an incredible range of men & women who have served our country. If you love a veteran, or love America, I can't recommend this highly enough. 🇺🇸 newyorkrep.org/the-american-s…

I'm well into my 40s, so one by one, I've been applying to these programs, providing my accurate birthdate. When they notify me that I do not qualify, I've sent them a link to the law and asked them to please stop discriminating against me. So far, every single one has let me in.

Many NYC theaters have discount ticket programs for folks aged 35 & under. This is likely a violation of NYC Human Rights Law §8-107(4) enforced by @NYCCHR prohibiting age-based discrimination in places of public accommodation. (Different price = unequal "terms and conditions".)

@IsaacsCenterNYC Why are your Education and Workforce programs, like CLIMB, restricted to adults under the age of 25?

@fairforall_org Thank you for standing up for freedom of speech & religious expression. What she stated was a simple personal belief, with no intent to harm, bother, or threaten anyone. I dread to think what will happen if we go the direction of the UK where it's now a crime to offend somebody!

📣𝗙𝗔𝗜𝗥 𝗟𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗹 𝗡𝗲𝘄𝘀: Earlier this week, we announced FAIR has filed a 𝗰𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗹 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗕𝗿𝘂𝗻𝘀𝘄𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗕𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 for discriminatory treatment of their VP, Deepa Karthik, after she made a personal social media post stating why as a Hindu, she doesn’t eat Halal food. Deepa Karthik, twice-elected to the Board and unanimously chosen as Vice President in January 2025, posted on her personal Facebook page that as a Hindu, she does not consume Halal products and questioned why Halal certification was extending beyond meat to items like tea, coffee, and rice. In a troubling pattern of preferential treatment for those attacking Karthik and accusing her of offending the Muslim faith, the Board allowed coordinated attacks on her ancestry and identity, then punished her for expressing her belief. FAIR is supporting Ms. Karthik because we are committed to defending constitutional principles wherever they are threatened, regardless of which identity group faces discrimination. Equal treatment under the law doesn’t just protect historically marginalized groups; it protects everyone, including Hindu Americans expressing their sincerely held religious and cultural beliefs. This case also shows why FAIR’s American Experience curriculum is so urgently needed. Civics, civil discourse, and constitutional literacy could have prevented this situation entirely. Link to read FAIR's entire statement on this case in thread below. /1

@OnstageBlog If a woman chooses an abortion, if a person chooses to identify as a gender different from the one you knew them by, or to practice a religion whose tenets contradict your own values, do those choices require a conversation with you also?

Theatre is supposed to unify, but too often we cling to division. Laura Osnes’ absence forces us to ask: are we a community that believes in permanent exile—or in welcoming people back? onstageblog.com/editorials/202…
