@RogersHistory Most of my classes ‘like me’-1 class has decided they hate authority, hate English, and hate me. Recently i’ve been graded down in pupil voice where my HOD gave too much credence to the student’s comments about me- the final straw, now to look at a career change. So done.

You know amazingly good teachers can be strongly disliked by some teenagers don't you? Because they expect the absolute best from them and won't say 'oh, go on then' every time.

Onward to Literature paper 2! 📝 Tip for unseen poetry: on the board lay out some common poetic forms focusing on their shape on the page, adding typical conventions and link to poems studied. Then, get pupils to match up a selection of unseen poems to the forms @LitdriveUK

Teachers struggle to explain things with any degree of clarity if they do not have a secure understanding of what it is they are supposed to be explaining, and yet subject knowledge is a hugely neglected aspect of CPD in many schools as they focus only on methods of delivery.

In the war against cliché, we need to use structures and exemplars. Students don't figure this stuff out for themselves. END

1. At first sight, there may not seem to be a relationship between behaviour, mental health and acquiring the skills to read well. In fact, the problems engendered by poor reading permeate all areas of one’s life. How reading problems can affect mental health, a 🧵 #EduTwitter

I’m really sick of the media referring to ‘the unions’ as if they are a separate entity to the millions of working people that they represent. ‘The unions’ are not orchestrating strikes, workers are standing up and fighting to save the services they provide.

Teachers leaving work on a Friday mentally and physically dead to the world and incapable of life and then only partially recovering by Monday is why we are in the mess we are. Because if you do that time and again, you burnout.
