When children learn to read after years of failure, the people around them often notice major improvements in behaviour, motivation and mood. We should be doing everything we can to eliminate illiteracy.

When a child doesn't learn to read we often hear things like poverty, lack of intelligence, poor motivation, parenting & presumed disabilities are the reason. In this podcast we talk to experts & show how those beliefs don’t hold water, & instead show that teaching is the solution. @SWLiteracy

Why can't some children read after even 11 years of formal education? Some will argue deprivation, lack of intelligence, poor motivation, & presumed disabilities. In this podcast, we show how those beliefs don’t hold water & that teaching is the solution. @ThinkReadTweet

One day, journalists won’t need to use the word “amazing” when a school lifts its literacy outcomes as a consequence of strong, explicit teaching. It will just be what schools do. But we’re not there yet. Ping @BenCarrollMP, @JasonClareMP, @dizdarm , @pruecar, @SabineWintonMLA

@ThinkReadHQ @JulianElliott11 Such a surprising & unfortunate comment by @JulianElliott11 – "to describe all kids with reading problems as dyslexic" without regard to the nature or severity of their problems would solve nothing. If dyslexia label is to hold any value its scope should be narrower not broader.
