For a change of pace… The church my family has been attending for the past couple years isn’t something I’m happy with. The pastor has fully embraced “prosperity preaching” and spends entire sermons clubbing you over the head to tithe. I seriously feel like he’s a bad month away from his own “lock the doors” moment. His wife, the “co-pastor,” literally turned her back on me when I was going through a rough period, both personally and professionally. Honestly, growing up, I never had a good church relationship. There was a LOT of bad disguised as good. The older I get, the more I realize how toxic that environment was. For my little girl, I want her to grow up in faith. I want her to be a true believer in the Word. I want her to enjoy Christ and a relationship with Him. I only hope we can find a really good church in Florida that can nurture all of it. Y’all pray for my family and I, please.

@PetriOP What I find interesting is that the same people who do things that aren't called for in the rubrics (such as holding hands that you mention) are usually the same people who don't do things are mandatory in the rubrics (such as bowing during the one line of the Creed). Shrug.

Priests should never do it. (Yes, I’ve seen it). Laity? Don’t do it. But that’s not a hill I’ll die on. I have my eyes set on bigger hills when it comes to Sacred Liturgy and the Holy Mass.

@wcmclaa @PetriOP Covid changed it drastically. Before covid people would join hands all along the length of the pew a often someone would try to connect to the next few over in a highly uncomfortable way. This is NOT exaggeration.

@PetriOP I don't see people doing this generally. Maybe members of a family hold hands, but not rows of people. This is exaggerated online.

A former protestant who recently became Catholic spoke about his experience after his first confession. This is so real. Who can relate??

To hear God- thru the priest- tell us your sins are forgiven go in peace is just such an amazing feeling. Much better than therapy- i know

That’s a glib way of saying that the burden of sin is what the spirit wear like a cement vest. The mercy& 4giveness of Christ found in the confessional frees us like a bird from a cage🙏🏼

@PaulPwachira758 @Xtopher_Uzo The beauty and wisdom of God instituting confession is that you dont ever have to feel like no one is listening. We are embodied beings, not spirits. We need our senses. Nothing compares to hearing God- thru a priest- say you are forgiven go in peace- Christ was so so good to us

He came and indicated he wanted to pray and knelt and is watching intently. He didn't do anything wrong. I have seen kids make a scene on the altar and this ain't it

I feel bad we waited the first 10 yrs of our marriage cuz I was following "the script" thank God he is good and blessed us w/5 (lost 5 too 😥) but I wish we had more and I'd learned lessons earlier. It's like a slower version of becoming fully transitioned. Once you hit past a certain state, in this case, age, it's irreparable. That type of life and all of its experiences is simply no longer available to you. The worst part is because of the social divide. People with families and children generally don't hang around single or people without family and children of their own, further isolating childless people as they grow older and their friends generally drifting away.

My wife was 22 and I was 23 when we married. We eventually had 8 children. Our 20s were marked by Boomer generation “advisors” at the grocery store, events, restaurants, and stores WARNING us not to have more children. They openly pitied us for having 3+ children. Boomer women thought my wife was being oppressed by her husband. At an Outback, a man openly told me “I feel sorry for you for having those kids.” Many Boomers were brainwashed to perceive having children “as a bad thing.” Worst of all, they felt empowered to insult a young couple in the presence of our children. Meanwhile, these people were in favor of importing the entire Third World into America for the sake of GDP. What a strange moment in American history.

@poperespecter1 @SpiffDSpaceman @b_bmarlin Its far more than music. The mere fact that teaching the Catholic faith that abortion is an intrinsic evil, or woshiping ad orientum, or adding a kneeler gets priests removed ... yeah its not merely the lack of sacred music.

I think the primary latitude that allows mass to be irreverent is probably the music. The church really needs to tighten up what hymns can be done and what instruments can be used to do them. 99% of the time when people are scandalized by an irreverent mass it isn't the text or the rubrics of the mass but the music.

I was reading a book on the early church (written in 1915) and came across this paragraph regarding the liturgy of the 4th century. It reads exactly like the Novus Ordo liturgy. The Novus Ordo is not new it is in many ways more ancient than most other liturgies.

If the point was to tell a story of how crazy this was and to not paint all protestants like this then I would agree with you, but the caption and put it in BIG LETTERS saying "PROTESTANTS WERE DUMBFOUNDED" instead of just saying crazy theology from random people. Those people you meet probably go to a UMC, Lutheran, PCA church which 99% of protestants agree are false and heretics.

@American_Johnny @fastbytewing There was a rumor that turned out to be untrue about the ordinariate being required to concelebrate when more than one priest but thats it. Nothing about the liturgy changing.

Hypothetically, if the ACNA did completely collapse & there were no orthodox diocese anywhere, all TEC parishes around you were heterodox & the Continuum doesn't exist within 200 miles of you...what would you do? Honestly asking because my scenario is not too far off from this.

@b_bmarlin I am guessing you have not been to a regular Catholic Church recently. No parish does Eagles wings for the last 20 years. Do you even attend mass?
