Today we hosted the US Open Local Qualifying here at Duke University Golf Club. The week leading up to the event was nonstop as we spent countless hours watering sod, tightening up detail work, weedeating out-of-play areas, pond and creek banks to get the #golfcourse tournament ready. Of course, it wouldn’t be tournament prep without an #irrigation leak popping up somewhere along the way, but thankfully Mother Nature finally showed up and gave us some much needed rain. #johndeere #greenkeeper #golfmaintenance

What a busy week we had on the #golfcourse ! The course was closed Monday–Thursday for some much-needed maintenance. A crew came in and laid sod on tees, collars, and approaches that didn’t quite make it through the winter, while we focused on aerifying tees and fertilizing the entire course with 27-0-0. And of course… it wouldn’t be a full week without a surprise—an irrigation leak on hole 1 decided to make an appearance 🫣. #greenkeeper #golfmaintenance #toro #johndeere

Y’all…we had frost in the rough on a Monday morning 😖. For a minute, we thought Maintenance Tuesday might not happen this week—but sure enough, the #golfcourse greens got the full treatment. 4 AM verticut. 6 AM kickoff: blowing, mowing, topdressing, rolling, hand watering, and cutting fresh cups. I’ve really been enjoying creating my own little #backyard #golf oasis. There’s something peaceful about putting in the work and then getting to enjoy it right at home. This area was weedeated down to dirt, so I used Roundup to keep the weeds under control and give it a clean slate. I also refreshed the cup and added a flag to the pole 🤗. Slowly but surely, my chipping game is coming along… and it won’t be much longer before I’m back out on the golf course playing. #homegreen #yardwork #shortgame

The #turfgrass this week definitely didn’t like those back-to-back 85–90°F days… and you can see it showing up on our tees. We’ve been dealing with a good amount of wilt, so one way I managed it was grabbing the hose and hand water—on top of running our sprinkler heads at night. In this video, I show you how I turn a sprinkler head into a quick hose hookup:
• Remove the guts 
• Attach a donut
• Put everything back together so it’s ready for the nighttime irrigation cycle. Sometimes it’s the little adjustments like this that help us stay ahead of stress and keep conditions where we want them. #toro #irrigation #golfcourse #greenkeeper

Today I took the next step in my career and started my new position as Golf Course Superintendent (In Training). I’ll be learning the ropes and property during a transitional season as I grow into the role. ⛳️

I missed last week’s Maintenance Tuesday, but this time I was the one out there at 4AM verticutting every green on the #golfcourse. Just me, the mower, and a whole lot of lines to lay down. Today I had the opportunity to attend the Emerging Women in Sports Leadership Summit—and wow, what an experience. I walked away with so many reminders that growth starts from within. Our thoughts shape our words, our words shape our actions, and our actions shape our results… which ultimately become our beliefs. What really stuck with me is this:
 -Be your best self every single day
 -Stay true to your word
 -Be transparent and authentic
 -Surround yourself with people who elevate you
 -And never forget to lift others up along the way There is so much room to grow beyond where we are right now—and it starts with mindset. The #golfcourse has taught me one valuable lesson…we are not in control. No matter how well you plan or how perfectly you execute things, something can (and will) go wrong. What we can control is how we respond. Two #irrigation pipe breaks on a Friday definitely wasn’t part of the plan…but instead of getting frustrated, I got to work—and honestly, it felt good. A little unexpected labor, a free workout, and another reminder that attitude really does make all the difference. #greenkeeper #johndeere #golfmaintenance
