@qchurch7 @clarkeskinders @HilliardPhd My school use to do the pull-out model, but because of Covid this year and last, they have classes just for the GT students. I definitely think length of time makes a difference!

@clarkeskinders @HilliardPhd I'm not sure, but the article suggested that AIG Ss are successful when they're pulled out and work with other AIG students for longer periods of time. Maybe it's the delivery method/model.

@HilliardPhd A4: My takeaway was student advice. We teachers too often don’t solicit or value their input. One of my students that I taught last year actually participated in this webinar upon my referral. I was so proud! #NewLitChat

@beloteNLGLgrad @HilliardPhd Yes! My school has a much larger ESOL population than I've been exposed to previously, so it's important to remember this.

@HilliardPhd A2 I was aspired to learn more about the impact of home language, especially as it pertains to different cultures and be more mindful of how that plays a role in how my students learn in the classroom #NewLitChat

@VLaVersa @HilliardPhd I definitely agree! I honestly didn't know what "new literacies" meant before starting this course.

@qchurch7 @HilliardPhd That's a fabulous point! My school that I taught at in NC did a great job of identifying those students and providing resources for me to use with them.

@HilliardPhd Q7: No argument, but I would aspire to make our AIG students known to their tchrs the way we do ELLs and Ss w/learning disabilities.

@CWeathersEDU Definitely! It's amazing what students are capable of today and will be even crazier to see what they can do 10 years from now!

@HilliardPhd A7: Just like everything else, things need to be revamped to accommodate for new tech and new information. We wouldn't (by choice) keep teaching from a textbook from the 70s , so we shouldn't still have the same literacy instruction approach from the 70s either! #NewLitChat

@CWeathersEDU You are not wrong! My GT students tend to put a lot of pressure on themselves.

@ShannaBuckner15 @HilliardPhd Absolutely! That's why I always tried to provide really great opportunities with my field trips when I worked at a Title 1 school.

@HilliardPhd A6: I would push back that it may not be the AIG programs that are failing?? It may be that the high income students have richer experiences outside school which contributes to their academic success. #NewLitChat

@HilliardPhd A6: I definitely want to argue that it's not true! As a GT teacher, that hurt to read. They didn't look at how many hours or what setting the GT instruction was given in. I aspire to prove myself with my students depth of knowledge and test scores. #NewLitChat

@HilliardPhd A5: The authors assume that all schools focus on the "lowest achievers". My school does both! We have an academy where students get 1.5 years of instruction in 1 year. I teach Gifted and Talented Ss. I agree you have to differentiate for the advanced students as well. #NewLitChat

@HilliardPhd A4: I liked hearing the student advice to teachers. We need to know how they feel! One student recommended making what you teach more applicable to students with real world situations. That's how you get the student buy-in and engagement! #NewLitChat

So excited! “Teaching Remotely: A Practical Guide” has become invaluable information since my county decided recently to go virtual. And now I can say I attended NC State right? 🐺#gowolfpack #dreamschool
