@navangirl @HSELive @DonnellyStephen So the public needs to get up in arms about DENTAL care in Ireland not just dump it at the GP door. Is no one listening to us and the current work load we have within our remit trying our hardest to deliver GP care. Dump things at the GP will sort nothing out

@MspelmanSpelman @HSELive @DonnellyStephen Watched a mum in the dentist yesterday being turned away with a child in pain as the child had a medical card and mum couldn’t afford the 120 e for review and X-ray. They just sent her off to ED. I felt sorry for the mum and child . Med card doesn’t cover dentist <16yrs

I am a GP NOT a Dentist. Just because u couldn’t get into a dentist doesn’t mean u go to the GP. That appt slot cud have been used to see a sick child. GPs are not dentists and I cannot understand why this keeps happening @HSELive @DonnellyStephen

Some attend OOH due to difficulty signing on with GP/getting appointment with GP. Many attend as a matter of convenience. Daytime GP’s must exit OOH if daytime service is to survive. Only chance of delaying collapse of OOH service is for OOH to revert to urgent issues only.

In January, we had 196 patients not show for their appointments despite being confirmed by phone and having reminder messages sent. With the increasing difficulty in ensuring timely access to GP care, non-attendance is unacceptable and deprives care from those who need it.
