@sandileswana But why don't we channel most of our energies towards starting Black owned businesses to rapidly absorb the "80.7% of the economically active population" instead of expecting the less than 10% to do so as this could be the best solution to redress the imbalances of the past?

Since the transition to democracy in 1994, black professionals and managers in South Africa have continued to report significant experiences of negative discrimination regarding promotions and salaries, despite legislative frameworks like the Employment Equity Act designed to redress these imbalances. Promotion and Career Advancement Barriers Persistent Under-representation: Despite a growing number of black graduates, white professionals remain over-represented in top management positions. As of recent years, Africans accounted for only 17.2% of top management despite making up 80.7% of the economically active population. Dual Challenges for Black Women: Black women face a "dual challenge" of race and gender discrimination. Early post-apartheid data indicated a white male was 5,000 times more likely to hold a top management position than an African woman. "Glass Ceilings" and Tokenism: Many black managers report being hired as "token" employees without real decision-making authority or being passed over for promotions in favour of less experienced white counterparts. Lack of Mentorship: A shortage of black mentors and a lack of organizational commitment to developing black talent often result in black professionals leaving the corporate sector due to neglected career aspirations. Salary and Wage Disparities Widening Wage Gap: While racial wage gaps declined near the end of apartheid, they unexpectedly increased immediately after 1994, only beginning to reverse around 2005. Research indicates that skilled white men still dominate high-paying occupations. Unequal Pay for Equal Work: Cases brought before the Labour Court highlight ongoing allegations of black employees being paid less than white colleagues for the same work, though proving race as the sole cause remains legally complex. Skills Premium vs. Discrimination: Some economists argue that while wage gaps remain high, they may be driven by a "skills premium" stemming from past educational backlogs rather than direct current discrimination. Workplace Culture and Subtle Racism Subtle Racism: Black professionals often navigate "white-dominated" environments where they experience subtle racism, stereotypes, and the emotional toll of being a numerical minority. Code-Switching: To fit into existing corporate cultures, many black professionals adopt code-switching strategies to navigate white power structures. Work Stress: Black managers often report high stress due to "role conflict," acting as intermediaries between white management and black workers.

@SongezoZibi How much in rands are you talking about when you say 4.5% of total payouts because percentages have a way of minimizing/trivializing the real value?

There is no need to amend the constitution, just the Act ( I support). In any case, RAF is funded as a social benefit scheme but makes insurance-like payments. Even if you changed the law to exclude foreigners (4.5% of total payouts), the RAF is still hopelessly insolvent.
Shingai@akanyangm

@SongezoZibi @MbekezeliMB Do you support the suggestion that an amendment (seemingly of the Constitution) be made to indicate that “any person” in the Constitution/Act be made to refer to South Africans and permanent residents?

@Enghumbhini Even unions do not have the appetite to takeover businesses that are being closed by capitalists to run them the socialist way because they do not believe in their theories as they are only good on paper.

Young Professionals, Teachers, Doctors, Engineers, Lawyers, Accountants etc. have to pay membership fees to professional bodies like SACE, HPCSA, LPC, ECSA and SAICA, even when they are UNEMPLOYED. The EFF is demanding parliamentary intervention to STOP this unjust practice!

@tumisole 🤣 so S17(1) must be amended to clearly state that "any person who is legally in the country", this is madness but I guess common sense is no longer common in South Africa.

Umthetho awuvumi! Firstly, if the law enforcement were to do that, they’ll open themselves up to being sued properly. Once they are involved in a serious motor vehicle accident, anywhere in Mzansi, they are eligible to claim from RAF. S17(1) of the RAF says: ‘the Fund shall ‘be obligated to compensate any person (third party) for any loss or damage which that person suffered as a result of any bodily injury to himself or herself or the death of or any bodily injury to any person, caused by or arising from the driving of a motor vehicle by any person at any place within the Republic, if the injury or death is due to the negligence or other wrongful act of the driver or the owner of the motor vehicle or of his or her employee in the performance of the employee’s duties as employee.’ Until the RAF Act is amended through a proper process, illegal immigrants involved in a motor vehicle accident will be eligible to claim from RAF. If an illegal immigrant is demanding money from a state agency, why are they not being arrested and deported first?

@SihleLonzi @ParliamentofRSA @PresidencyZA These membership fees are actually license fees paid in order to get permission to work as a professional and to be punished by the same body if you make a mistake. Democracy is very expensive and brutal.

I do not support any Ghanaian thar travels to other country and violate their laws. This guy is unpatriotic and selfish. However if South Africa wants to bring their Xenophobia on Ghanaians, they’re going to lose. If an African is in their country illegally, they should let their security forces deal with them, not civilians lynching them. Here are SA businesses operating in Ghana. We can close their offices quickly.

Xenophobic South Africans are the stupidest people in the world. People who are themselves victims of a deeply unequal system are turning on fellow Africans instead of confronting the structural injustices that still exclude them. Attacking and killing your black brothers and sisters from foreign countries will not fix an economy whose foundations remain unequal, will not take the 70% of privately held land from white people and place it in your lazy hands. Wake up. Kudos to all the awakened South Africans who know that foreign black people are not their enemy!

@radipatanta @Kane_GM9 Lol, I asked you questions so you can think instead of regurgitating toxic ideologies that do not take us anywhere. I mean we allow them to control a large part of the country's production without being forced by being the consumers of almost everything. Make it make sense.

@MthimbaniX @Kane_GM9 Touche..... Fortunately I won't stoop to the level of trying to ingratiate with racists by using the suffering of the majority of South Africans. The idea that somehow there was any good from apartheid is appalling and it's a reflection of being poor understanding of politics

This Zimbabwean lady didn’t hold back. She told her fellow citizens scattered across the world that calling yourself “educated” while doing low-level work in other people’s countries isn’t exactly an achievement. And maybe it lands differently coming from one of their own, because if we say the same thing, suddenly it’s labeled xenophobia.

@Princymthombeni @ntsikimazwai Every country belongs only to those ruling it. It’s an illusion & a wet dream to think your country belongs to you. When the rulers mess things up get up & go somewhere else. The UN made the world a global village for that reason. Every country accommodates foreigners by LAW.
