@imkahloon This is wildly framed to blame the children. Blame the school systems & educators. Maybe schools have lost a grip on their own curriculums & hiring practices? Maybe they’re doing everything except teaching the basics? The adults are at fault.

To me, it's not just smartphones, though those didn't help. We also lowered our expectations in schools—and kids fell to the occasion. That helps make sense of grade inflation and big graduation-rate increases despite worsening scores.
