The Corporation for Public Broadcasting announced today that it will be closing down by the end of the year following the passage of a rescissions package earlier this month. My team and I are still figuring out what this announcement will mean for Alaska Public Media, but rest assured that I will not back down when it comes to public broadcasting. When I return home this month, I will spend time with public broadcasters across the state to assess their needs and chart a path forward. The programming and emergency alerts these stations provide to communities throughout Alaska are vital, and I won’t give up until they receive the support they need.

Florida is recovering from one hurricane while another is on the way. -The Republican Governor is refusing to talk with the President to coordinate hurricane relief -All Florida Republicans in Congress voted against supplemental disaster relief money for FEMA -82 House Republicans, including 11 from Florida, voted to shut down the government, knowing a powerful hurricane was on its way -The Republican-controlled House took a vacation for the month of August instead of passing a budget on time, which means no new FEMA budget -The Republican Speaker of the House is refusing to reconvene Congress from their second month-long vacation to pass emergency supplemental funds for FEMA -The Republican presidential nominee continually lies about the federal disaster response instead of making sure his voters have the correct information to receive help -The Republican party wants to eliminate FEMA and NOAA (the agency that monitors, tracks, and predicts the path of hurricanes) -The Republican Party refuses to acknowledge climate change while watching insurance companies leave Florida because increasingly stronger storms are making insurance claims too expensive to operate Florida, why do you keep voting for the party that not only does nothing for you but actively works against your best interests?

I can't recall ever having been this blown away by a documentary. It will 100% be worth your time. Mandatory viewing for people of conscience.

OK, I'll grant you that there might be a few areas where it's fair to compare Trump to Hitler - but just a few: -Like Trump, Hitler was a right wing, pro-militarist white nationalist. -Like Trump, Hitler publicly despised immigrants, and demonized & targeted certain groups for exclusion. -Like Trump, Hitler was anti-LGBT & banned abortions for "citizens." -Like Trump, Hitler scapegoated a powerless minority as "vermin" "infestation" & "poisoning the blood of the nation." -Like Trump, Hitler was a scab who hated labor unions & collective bargaining. -Like Trump, Hitler used the pretext of "law and order" to justify the expansion of police powers. -Like Trump, Hitler promised mass deportations of undesirable minorities. -Like Trump, Hitler relaxed the stricter gun control laws of the liberal govt that had come before. -Like Trump, Hitler promised to restore order & discipline through strong, authoritarian leadership. -Like Trump, Hitler supported conservative religious education in the public schools. -Like Trump, Hitler used excessive Nationalist propaganda and attacked the press as fake. -Like Trump, Hitler organized large, theatrical rallies where he promised screaming fans he would root out Marxists and crush their enemies. -Like Trump, Hitler's most fanatical support came from rural, socially conservative Protestants. -Like Trump, Hitler pretended to be Christian. -"We want to burn out all the recent immoral developments in literature, in the theater & in the press- in short, we want to burn out the poison of immorality which has entered into our whole life and culture as a result of liberal excess during the past ... (few) years." -Right Wing Adolf. Having said all this, I wish Hitler had been more like Trump - spending all his time golfing, watching TV, alienating his allies, getting arrested for stupid corruption & consuming massive amounts of trans fats.

1. The family that invited Trump doesn't get to exempt him from the law. They simply don’t have that power. They also don’t speak for all the other gold star families. 2. Trump didn’t go for the first or second anniversaries, just the one before an election. 3. Trump never attended any of the gravesites of the 65 service members who died on his watch. 4. In October 2020, Trump said he would have all the troops in Afghanistan home by Christmas. Didn't happen. And let's not forget his comment to the mother of her son, KIA, "He knew what he signed up for."
