Patience and persistence is what deferenciate a professional from an amateur.

A Heartbreaking Loss and a Gentle Reminder to Every Medical Student I was really sad when I heard of the passing of Ifeoluwa Wisdom Akinmade, a 300 Level MBBS student at the University of Ibadan. He was transitioning from 200 to 300 level when he reportedly took a substance suspected to be Sniper on Saturday midnight. He was rushed to Jaja Hall clinic, then to University College Hospital (UCH), where he remained in a coma for many hours before sadly passing. Ifeoluwa was one of us. A medical student. Someone who sat in the same lecture halls, faced the same exams, and carried the same weight we all carry. But somewhere along the line, the weight became too heavy. To Every Medical Student Reading This Medical school is hard. That is not news. The long hours, the endless material, the pressure to perform, the fear of failing, the feeling that everyone else is coping except you, it can all become overwhelming. But please hear this: Your grades do not define your worth. One bad test, one failed course, one repeated posting, one extra year, none of it is worth your life. If you find yourself feeling overwhelmed, anxious, hopeless, or alone, please do not keep it to yourself. Talk to someone. A friend, a senior colleague, a mentor, or a counsellor. There is no shame in saying, "I am struggling." For UI medical students, please be reminded that UCH has a Counselling Unit, for when the emotions get heavy, when the finances are tight, when the pressure feels like too much. It is there for a reason. Please use it. If everything is becoming too much, rest. Not Sniper. Not alcohol. Not any substance promising escape. Rest. A Final Goodbye To Ifeoluwa's family, his friends, his classmates, his hall mates, and everyone at the University of Ibadan, may God grant you all the strength to bear this irreparable loss. To every medical student reading this: you matter. Your life matters more than any exam, any grade, any expectation. Please take care of yourself. If you cannot, please reach out to someone who can help. Rest well, Ifeoluwa. You will not be forgotten. 💔 #MentalHealthAwareness #MedicalSchoolStruggles
