NEW: France votes to ban social media for children under 15, becoming the first country in the European Union to approve a nationwide age limit. President Emmanuel Macron, who pushed lawmakers to fast-track the bill, says he'll sign the legislation into law and the ban will take effect at the start of the new school year in September. "The brains of our children and our teenagers are not for sale," Macron says, arguing young people should not be manipulated by "American platforms" or "Chinese algorithms." France now joins a growing international push to restrict children's access to social media. Australia has already implemented a nationwide ban for users under 16, the U.K. plans similar restrictions next year, and Spain, Greece and Denmark are also moving toward minimum age limits. French officials are still working out how social media platforms will verify users' ages under the new law.
