Today, I raised serious concerns regarding the acute shortage of teachers in rural schools and called upon the Ministry of Education to urgently address this imbalance through equitable staff distribution
Speaking while at St. Francis Kolongolo Girls Secondary School in Kwanza Constituency, I emphasized that the current shortage is unjustified particularly in light of the 100,000 teachers already employed and the additional 20,000 more set to be recruited.
I noted that although President Dr. William Ruto’s administration had improved the teacher-to-learner ratio significantly, it was unacceptable for Kolongolo Secondary and other rural schools to have a shortage of up to 28 teachers.
I further urged Education CS Dr. Julius Ogambo to ensure that teacher deployment is guided by fairness and need rather than personal preferences for urban postings.
Additionally I called upon the local leaders to refrain from engaging in divisive politics and instead work towards fostering unity within the county, a region that exemplifies the nation’s rich diverse and cosmopolitan nature.

I have this morning presided over the 2026 Legislative Retreat of the National Assembly, convened under the theme “Securing Parliamentary Legacy: Delivering the Fifth Session’s Agenda and Preparing for Transition.” Currently underway at the Lake Naivasha Resort, Nakuru County.
The forum offers a defining moment, approximately seventeen months before the next General Election. As political activity inevitably intensifies, I urged Members to pause, reflect, and refocus on their cardinal duty in the August House, which reminds us of our enduring constitutional responsibility: to legislate, to oversee, and to represent the people of Kenya with dignity and purpose.
I have reminded Members that they possess the ‘power of the purse’, and that they should place great emphasis on the Estimates and numerical adjustments to the budget during the budget-making process, in order to give priority to the underlying policy considerations that directly correspond to the Estimates and figures.
I highlighted the importance of wellness and coexistence, as demonstrated during the 15th EALA Inter-parliamentary games held in the Republic of Uganda from 7th to 17th December, where Members experienced the value of health, fitness, and general well-being, with stellar performances across various sports disciplines.
I commend the Office of the Clerk, headed by the Clerk of the National Assembly, Mr. Samuel Njoroge, for a well-thought-out theme that is timely, deliberate, and deeply relevant to where we are as a House and as a nation.

Cognizant that the education transition from the 8-4-4 to the current CBE 2-6-3-3 has faced both successes and challenges, the government is determined to ensure a smooth transition into the CBE Education system.
Concerns have been raised in today’s session regarding a presentation by the Cabinet Secretary of Education, Mr. Julius Migos, at the ongoing Legislative Retreat in Naivasha, indicating that a review of the transition is necessary to develop policies that will serve the country effectively.
During the session, Members raised very pertinent issues about the inadequate distribution of resources and teachers, citing cases in a school with about 100 students and 28 Teachers, and another school with 300 students and 2 teachers; hence, the need for rationalization.
I have challenged the CS Education to establish guidelines for consolidating duplicated education bursaries into a single central basket for efficient distribution to the intended beneficiaries.
These issues in education are critical, and I have guided the leadership of the National Assembly, together with the Committee on Education, to convene an urgent meeting to resolve the challenges and allow school-going pupils and students to attend to their education properly.

@amenya_nelson Employer preferences led to the choice of 6 banks including Sidian Bank for SHIF payments, as confirmed by SHA Chairperson Dr. Abdi. Sidian Bank's role is limited to remittance processing, ensuring secure transfers to SHA, with no involvement in SHA operations or disbursements.

The silence on SHA ghost facilities is deafening. They’re probably drafting a press release for tomorrow. Remember Ruto in Europe bragging about raising over $1B (≈130B KES) from SHA? These exposes are just the tip of the looting iceberg. We urgently need an audit and full disclosure of the accounts held at Sidian Bank and all their transactions.
