The Kigumo Sub-County Hospital in Murang'a County has undergone a major upgrade, part of the National Government's ongoing reforms aimed at realizing Universal Health Coverage (UHC) by bringing essential health services closer to the people; a key pillar of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA). The expansion, which was completed in 2025, is designed to decongest regional referral hospitals such as Murang'a Level 5 by providing comprehensive services locally. The upgraded facility now accommodates all outpatient services, casualty care, pharmacy, male and female wards as well as minor and major theatres. The hospital also includes a powerhouse to support reliable electricity, with the oxygen plant and final equipping still underway. Since the upgrade, hospital revenue has increased, indicating higher patient uptake and improved service delivery. The State Department for Internal Security and National Administration has supported the project through oversight and coordination, recognizing that robust health infrastructure is foundational for individual wellbeing and the security of the community. Works along the Rironi–Naivasha–Nakuru–Mau Summit corridor are fully active, with 12 work teams deployed concurrently across multiple sections.
