She died, just like that!
We go back to normal business.
Life goes on for the girls.
As we wait for the next death.
And we shall return in anger.
After, life will go on and on.
Many more Ugandans will die there.
But why should we be bothered!
Yet we can always send more.
The airport will still be busy.
With queues of vulnerable girls.
Running from kiln to incinerator.
We shall simply look on.
Rest in Peace Patricia,
If this still makes sense.
Greetings to earlier victims.
The pain of mourning.
My graduate of yesterday.
I was only her teacher.
But how will her mother
Receive her daughter
Now as a mere body
Returned minus
Dreams & life!
How will she live?
With the memory
Of that hospital phone call
Negotiating
Her daughter’s organs
In exchange for
An air ticket
For the lifeless body
Of the fruit
Of her womb!
How many more?
Shall we educate
Into desperation
Only to become
The world’s maids
To lose their humanity
To be regarded only but
Labour objects
Carriers of organs
21st century slaves
With no abolitioners
To fight for them
Running from Equator
To planned deserts
Seeking for opportunities
While their leaders
Stage performances
Against imperialism
Parading strength
Where least needed
I won’t cry
No I won’t cry
These flowing
Aren’t tears
I won’t cry
It’s water
I won’t cry
😭

In Kenya & Tanzania, I’ve met people who think Museveni is a great. Their reasons vary, some say he “stands up for Africa” & refer to speeches where he talks about colonialism, others, especially Kenyans, like him for being “funny”. Interestingly, many of the Tanzanians say very harsh things about Magufuli - who’d probably pass as a favourite president for many Ugandans even today.
Recently, I met someone from Burkina Faso and asked him about their 35-year-old coup leader-turned-president, Ibrahim Traore - a favourite of many youthful Africans lately. He had no kind words. He described the coup leader as a man of PR creating an impression that he is standing up to the bully - France - and all is well, whereas not. He said even moving from one area to another is not as easy as it was in the past. He described the regime as “paranoid”, “fearful of its own shadow” to the extent that life is generally hard for citizens.
Dictators are smart people. They have this thing of making the rest of the world believe they’re the good people confronting a serious problem where others are doing nothing or failing. Amin went as far as to dare the govts of Israel, America, Britain, and apartheid South Africa for freedoms of liberty of the Palestinians and black people. At home, his rogue regime was murdering the same black people! But, many fell for it. Several civil rights movement actors flew all the way from US to Uganda in the 70s to meet their “champion for human rights”.
As for Museveni, and Gadaffi before him, Pan-Africanism is/wass their PR story to milk. To some who don't know much about them, they’re standing up for Africa, the oppressed poor people abandoned by the world. Never mind that Gadaffi committed murder of several of his countrymen in Abu Salim prison in 1996. Never mind that he publicly hanged his citizens for doing as little as speaking against his regime.
Also, ever mind that the same Gadaffi wagged a senseless war of annexation against Chad where innocent Africans - helpless men, women, and children where killed! To this day, many Africans believe Gadaffi was really a benevolent guy saving Africa who was killed for this very reason. He certainly wasn't liked by the West and they killed, but he wasn't the poster child of Pan-Africanism for sure. After all, who is a Pan-Africanist who senselessly wages wars to kill those very Africans or shoots them dead when they demand for freedoms? I don't even have to talk about Mugabe.
I guess this explains the reason Museveni was so free with Kenyans this week in a way that he is never with Ugandans. It is part of their carefully crafted PR. I am sure as the Ugandan football players of Kitaara FC were scratching their head and wondering if it is the same Museveni they know, many Kenyans left thinking he is a people-person - a man of the people, a free president who chills with people and shakes their hands… Nope, he is the guy who blocks roads around a major hospital for an hour or longer just so he can drive by! Don't shake hands here - including with MPs, and moves around with a facemask in 2025.

FINANCING SCHEME FOR PRIVATE LARGE SCALE COMMERCIAL FARMERS:
Finance Minister @MatiaK5
has today launched a new Financing Scheme for Private Large Scale Commercial Farmers, designed to provide timely, affordable, and accessible financial resources to farmers who are at the heart of our agricultural economy.
The Scheme establishes a financing mechanism to support Private Large Scale Commercial farmers to produce 132,600 Metric tons (MT) of maize, Beans, Soya beans, Sorghum and animal feeds on a total proposed acreage of 114,661 acres.
This will be implemented by having Government-owned Financial Institutions (Pride Microfinance, Post Bank and Housing Finance) provide a principal amount of Shs.176 billion, and GoU meeting the corresponding interest component of Shs.40billion annually.
This Scheme with flexible loan repayment plan will initially run for a period of six (6) years and eligibility includes companies, cooperatives and other formal qualifying entities with available land or engaged in large scale farming with a minimum of 50 acres of land.
Finance Minister @MatiaK5, Agriculture Minister @FrankTumwebazek,representatives of the financial instititutions among other key stakeholders signed the agreement to mark the launch of this new scheme.
@FrankTumwebazek said the money is not for trading but production.
He said his Ministry will share profiled large scale farmers with @mofpedU and the financial institutiond in all districts of Uganda.
PSST @rggoobi said today marks a pivotal moment in the continued efforts to empower farmers, enhance food and feed security, and drive sustainable agricultural growth in the country.
PSST said this scheme will support the governments’ Tenfold growth strategy that aims to grow Uganda’s GDP from about US$.50billion in FY2022/23 to US$.500billion by 2040.
Agro-industrialization, an anchor sector of the strategy, aims to commercialize and formalize farming leading to a fivefold growth of agro-industrial exports with estimated value of US$.20billion.

hi Toko,
ERA uses the block tariff system where the first block of units (15 kWh) is cheaper, and subsequent blocks are more expensive
this tiered pricing means the cost per unit increases with higher consumption
allow me explain in a 🧵 below:
TOKO@GodwinTOKO
The biggest heist in Uganda must be the fact that, each time one is paying for @UmemeLtd tokens, they don't know how many units they will get. That I can pay 60K today & get 90 units, then pay 80k tomorrow & get 80 units. Even Pablo Escobar would take lessons from Umeme! 🙌🏾

Ordinarily, I don’t support such fundraisings - where government causes damage, and we carry the burden of correcting. But knowing that they wouldn’t care anyway, sometimes we need to nevertheless rise up and be there for the victims. To be human, where the oppressors feel nothing.
Let us please help this elderly lady, through @AAgather’s drive
