If you follow any "sports journalist" who claims this World Cup stained Messi's legacy, understand what that makes you. You are the lowest common denominator such a "journalist" could ever hope to reach. Messi dominated this tournament. Eight goals, four assists, twelve contributions. A leader across nearly every attacking metric. A hat-trick to open it. The first man ever to pass 20 goals at the World Cup. He came into it as the only two-time Golden Ball winner in history and the first man to start three finals, already the most decorated footballer who ever lived, and at 39 he was still the reason Argentina reached the final. That he lost the final cannot change a word of that. If a journalist cannot separate one match from a whole tournament, from a whole legacy, and that source is who you turn to for football, you are being fed junk dressed as analysis.
