This is Luna. She has a permanent grumpy face because she had distemper as a puppy. She has enormous ears because we assume one of her parents was a jackrabbit. Still 13/10

@Ravious101 This is why "don't buy, adopt" sounds so meaningful. But then there are a few good breeders too. Without them it's impossible to keep the breeds going.

Rita and Philip Potter ‘never gave up hope’ after their labrador Daisy was stolen by suspected backyard breeders She was stolen from her garden and gone for over eight years. But love — and one tiny microchip — brought Daisy home to the elderly couple who never stopped believing. Rita Potter, now 80, and her husband Philip, 88, from the quiet village of Old Buckenham in Norfolk, England, treated their Labrador like one of their own. Daisy filled their days with belly rubs, garden romps, and that special kind of joy only a dog can bring. Then, one ordinary November day in 2017, everything shattered. Witnesses watched in horror as suspected backyard breeders snatched Daisy from the backyard, bundled her into a truck with false plates, and sped away. The police couldn’t trace it. The Potters were devastated. They refused to give up. They launched appeals that went viral around the world — even actor Tom Hardy shared their plea. They started a petition that gathered over 100,000 signatures calling for stronger pet-theft laws. And every single day, Rita and Philip stood in front of Daisy’s photograph on the mantlepiece, wondering if she was safe, if she was loved… or if she was gone forever. The not-knowing was torture. More than eight years passed. Daisy turned thirteen. Then, on February 2, 2025, over 200 miles away in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, RSPCA Inspector Kim Walters was on a routine check when she found a Labrador in terrible condition — dirty, neglected, suffering from painful untreated mammary masses, the heartbreaking signs of a life spent in back-yard breeding. The current owner couldn’t afford vet care and surrendered her. At the clinic, they scanned for a microchip. It pinged back instantly with Rita and Philip’s details — still up to date after all those years. It was Daisy. Their Daisy. Six days later, on February 6, the reunion happened. Rita and Philip could barely contain their tears as their long-lost girl walked back through the door. The moment was captured on video — pure, overwhelming joy. Daisy remembered her family. She remembered the grass. She remembered home. She settled in immediately, rolling in the garden she had been deprived of for so long, soaking up belly rubs, and snuggling close for cuddles. The grandchildren rushed to buy her toys and treats. She had operations to remove the painful masses and cysts, and now she moves freely again, sleeping deeply because she finally feels safe and loved. Rita says simply, “Daisy coming back has filled a huge void in our hearts. It really is a miracle.” Inspector Kim Walters was overjoyed: “I’m so pleased she is doing so well and has settled back into the loving life she truly deserves.” In a world full of animal welfare crises and broken hearts, this story reminds us why we never stop hoping. A microchip, a caring inspector, and a family that refused to forget — that’s all it took to bring one stolen dog home after eight long years. True humanity isn’t about grand gestures. It’s about never giving up on a missing family member. It’s about opening your arms when the lost one finally returns. It’s about choosing kindness when it matters most. Daisy is proof that some bonds can never be broken. Welcome home, girl. You were always loved.

Kitchen & dining room is obviously the most used in a home yet our builders make matchbox sized kitchens even in palace sized houses. Yet to see a single house where the kitchen was well built for all its needs. Even independently built houses.
systemlayers@systemlayers

@drvolts A few years ago UCLA did a study on room usage. I often think about how useless a porch/dining room is. Why hasn't there been more innovation around how people ACTUALLY use their space in their homes? wsj.com/articles/SB100…
