@horseyannie @NormanBrennan Don't fall into the trap of old age and medication. I arrested a frail 85 yr old. Without warning he lunged forward and strangled me. I handcuffed every prisoner after that.

@NormanBrennan Norman they are arresting an old man who asks if he needs to take his medication with him. I think they are getting good at arresting people who don’t represent any kind of physical threat whilst steering clear of those who run around the streets with machetes.

@DCBMEP @RobertJenrick @ConservativeDOr The candidate should be assessed on the qualities need for the role they aspire to, not MP. It is ridiculous that candidates can be marked as a "very good PCC candidate but not MP" and fail the assessment. Not every applicant wants to be an MP.

Most encouraging piece on reforming party democracy from @RobertJenrick - he gets it. @ConservativeDOr “The Conservative Party doesn’t just need root-and-branch reform, it needs to be rebuilt. Rebuilt from the ground up as a mass movement of conservatives, united in a common endeavour and rooted in our communities. I’m convinced it can be done. It will be the most important task of the years ahead.” “I believe any Conservative party member should be able to apply for selection. We must scrap the approved candidates list which has morphed beyond all recognition.  CCHQ’s role should be limited to ensuring that candidates hold conservative principles and values, can perform the job of being an MP, meet the required moral and ethical standards expected of those in public life, and that local associations run fair and open contests.” conservativehome.com/2024/07/12/rob…

@WillHayCardiff There has been a lot of criticism of parties not getting out and door knocking. It is impossible to get to every household. Media have a part to play and I saw more about SNP leadership that PCC elections. Why?

The PCC turnout figures reflect the utterly useless nature of these jobs. Take Gwent. Just 6.5% of the total electorate voted for the eventual winner. That is a £73K a year job for four years. You could double the turnout and it would still be a democratic joke.

@Murphy25Brian Thanks for listening and glad you like it Brian. I'd love to come to West Wales but no suitable venue at the mo. My tour bookers have tried @TheatrMwldan Cardigan, a couple of times but no response yet.

Previously I've argued against automatic use of handcuffs for searching. But given the current climate of scrutiny & IOPC directions/recommendations in cases like this. I'm now wondering if there's an argument for handcuffing detainees to the rear for all searches & transporting?
Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC)@policeconduct

A @metpoliceuk officer failed to properly search or monitor Andrzej Kusper, who died in Leyton Custody Centre in Sept 2021 after choking on a package of drugs he put in his mouth while being searched. Read more about our investigation here: ▶️ rb.gy/itxpju

@alfiemoore I was ok. Fortunately help wasn’t too far away. My body armour saved me. He managed to bend me backwards over a wall and the rigidity of my armour saved my back. When are you touring west wales. Love the radio 4 programme.

@alfiemoore Second time my cuffs were with another officer, with 3 prisoners and he needed mine. I was walking back to the station when another prisoner handed himself in to me. As we waited for the van to arrive he turned. Within seconds I was fighting for my life. 2/2

@alfiemoore I always handcuffed to the rear. I was in control and aveyine was safe. There were two occasions with compliant prisoners they tried to kill me. First was an 80 yr old alcoholic, who tried strange me when he realised he was going in the back of the car. 1/2

@legalclaret Doesn't require a "highly skilled silk" to destroy their case. I took on their barrister and exposed the lack of evidence and the judge questioned why it was in her court. The company was Horizon - couldn't possibly be connected to the Post Office?

@Amanwy @Amanwy I am from Edinburgh and now live in Pembs. One is a city, the other is rural. In one I can travel on public transport easily and cheaply, the other has no public transport. In one I can ditch my car, in the other it is vital. They are NOT comparable.

@NormanBrennan The facts are he was 15 during the Falklands conflict and is not entitled to wear the medal. I had a lot of respect for him and his real concern about his staff's welfare. When he is shown to be a charlatan it makes me very uncomfortable and undermines trust in police officers.

Folks I know little about this medal saga but I do know that Nick Adderley is in my opinion & many others a decent man & a well respected Chief Constable of Northamptonshire Constabulary; I’m not always over complimentary of police chiefs but have always found Nick a decent Chief
Simon Tilley@roguetrader1980

The BBC have done a deep dive into Nick Adderley's career and history, confirming his time running the Hooton Arms. With so much information in the public domain WHY is he still afforded the luxury of his salary. He should be sacked today! bbc.co.uk/news/uk-englan…

@daimogssoapbox This is a big news story. Anyone who travels by train which is cancelled would get a bus or taxi replacement. Not a police escort. Security is not an issue. If it was she would t have travelled by train. Clear case of twice.
