Disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz could spike global oil prices by 40-50%, impacting India’s 80% oil import dependency, even though Russia and Iraq are key suppliers today. This suggests that a U.S. attack on Iran, as you imply might be beneficial, could backfire by destabilizing the region and raising costs for India. The $20 billion Chabahar port project and the International North-South Transport Corridor are vital for bypassing Pakistan and accessing Central Asia. The U.S. actions against Iran risk pushing it toward China, complicating India’s strategic access. Condemning the attack could preserve these investments and reinforce India’s non-alignment credibility with the Global South, a stance historically upheld by 13 of India’s 14 prime ministers, from Nehru to Manmohan Singh. Your argument assumes a stable U.S.-led outcome, but Trump’s unprovoked escalation introduces uncertainty. Iran might retaliate against the Gulf’s energy infrastructure if its survival is threatened, amplifying volatility. This contradicts the 2023 Energy Policy study’s premise that reduced tensions would lower oil prices. India’s diversification toward Russia (40% of crude imports in 2024) offers some buffer, but a broader regional crisis could still strain our economy. Finally, aligning with the U.S. might please Riyadh and Abu Dhabi in the short term, but the long-term cost, losing Iran’s cooperation and alienating the Global South, could box India in strategically. Condemning the attack would reinforce India’s balanced approach, safeguarding its interests over a unilateral pro-U.S. stance.
Sadanand Dhume@dhume

I’m afraid the facts are not on your side. India does indeed import most of its energy. But Iran is not a major supplier of oil to India and has not been one for several years. It isn’t even in the top 10. Saudi Arabia and UAE matter much more, and both will be pleased if Iran is denied nukes.

An unstable Iran really doesn’t do India any favors, and here’s why it bugs me. We’re talking about 425,000 barrels of oil a day from Iran, huge for us since we import over 80 percent of our energy, and if things go haywire there, those supplies could dry up, sending oil prices through the roof and hitting our economy hard, like we saw with those 2018 to 2019 US sanctions. Then there’s the Chabahar port project, with its 20 billion dollar investment, and the North-South Transport Corridor, both meant to open up trade with Central Asia and Afghanistan without going through Pakistan, but if Iran’s a mess, those plans could just collapse. On the security side, an unstable Iran might let groups like the Taliban or ISIS gain ground, and that could spill over into Pakistan, making our western border a bigger headache. Plus, if we cozy up to the US and seem to benefit from Iran’s troubles, we might alienate the Global South, which cares about non-alignment, and push Iran into China’s arms, leaving us strategically boxed in. Honestly, the downsides here totally outweigh any quick wins, and stability feels like the smarter bet for us in the long run.
Sadanand Dhume@dhume

It makes no sense for India to condemn the U.S. attack on Iran. If Iran’s rogue nuclear program has been set back or eliminated that’s good for India. Serious countries look out for their own interests. They don’t posture just to make leftist activists feel good about themselves.

#WATCH | Delhi: Union Minister of Housing & Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal Khattar says, "Regarding air conditioning standards, a new provision is being implemented soon. The temperature standardization for ACs will be set between 20°C to 28°C, meaning we won't be able to cool below 20°C or warm above 28°C. This is a first-of-its-kind experiment, aiming to standardize temperature settings."

If you can't own up to your mistake and offer a public apology, resign and step aside, let someone more capable handle the state's health ministry.
Vishwajit Rane@visrane

During the broadcast with Prudent Media last night, I openly extended my heartfelt apology to Dr. Rudresh Kuttikar for the harsh words spoken by me during my visit to GMC. In the heat of the moment, my emotions overtook my expression, and I deeply regret the manner in which I addressed the situation. It was never my intention to undermine or disrespect the dignity of any medical professional. Doctors hold a sacred and noble position in our society. They work tirelessly to heal, to comfort, and to save lives. I hold the highest respect for their contribution to our state. While I may have erred in my communication, my intent was always to ensure that no patient is denied timely care and that our public health system remains responsive and compassionate. However, I am equally concerned about the disruption in services at Goa Medical College, which is now impacting thousands of innocent patients. The public is bearing the brunt of this situation, and I urge all our doctors to reflect on the larger responsibility we share the welfare of our people. This issue is now unfortunately being politicised, turning a professional matter into a political confrontation. That is not the path we should follow. Let us not allow the sanctity of GMC and its service to the people be diminished by external agendas. Our focus must remain steadfast on healing and helping. I appeal to our doctors to return to duty with the same passion and commitment that defines their profession. Disservice to the people of Goa, in any form, cannot be justified. Let us all rise above this moment, reaffirm our shared commitment to public health, and work together to ensure that no patient suffers due to misunderstandings or misplaced priorities. Goa looks up to its doctors with pride. Let us continue to live up to that trust. @prudentgoa @InGoa24x7

I’d argue Owaisi is a clever politician who knows how to play his cards well. Folks from Telangana can bear witness to how he’s been one of the driving forces in Telugu politics. His recent tours and firm stand against Pakistan have helped him gain legitimacy in the Hindi heartland, transforming him from a politically "touch me not" figure, whom the socialist and Mandalwadis felt uncomfortable accommodating, into a more accepted voice. The recent talks of his alignment with RJD for the upcoming Bihar elections, as reported by India Today , further validate his strategic maneuvering. indiatoday.in/elections/asse…
Darab Farooqui@darab_farooqui

I had no idea Owaisi and Tharoor were such weak and submissive men made out of a weak moral fiber. Politicians frequently make errors in their calculations, which is okay. However, these two proved to be complete disappointments.

This Rafale was shot down inside Indian airspace. Why? Because the Corporates owned govt bypassed the Cabinet Committee on Security, scrapped full tech transfer from Dassault, and left the IAF without source code to integrate it with systems like the S-400.

"Congress mein hona aur Congress ka hona mein zameen-aasmaan ka antar hai."
ANI@ANI

#WATCH | Panama City | Congress MP Shashi Tharoor says, "What has changed in recent years is that the terrorists have also realised they will have a price to pay, on that, let there be no doubt. When, for the first time, India breached the Line of Control between India and Pakistan to conduct a surgical strike on a terror base, a launch pad - the Uri strike in September 2015. That was already something we had not done before. Even during the Kargil War, we had not crossed the Line of Control; in Uri, we did, and then came the attack in Pulwama in January 2019. This time, we crossed not only the Line of Control but also the international border, and we struck the terrorist headquarters in Balakot. This time, we have gone beyond both of those. We have not only gone beyond the Line of Control and the international border. We have struck at the Punjabi heartland of Pakistan by hitting terror bases, training centres, terror headquarters in nine places."

This isn’t just about business; it’s hitting free speech too. ANI’s got a tight grip on government footage, and if they’re cozy with the ruling powers, those crazy fees and strikes can scare off creators who criticize the government. Instead of strong-arming with takedowns, ANI could try something fairer like sharing ad revenue or offering cheaper rates for small creators.

Okay, let’s talk about ANI’s copyright strikes that Smita is defending. ANI says it’s just protecting its content, but come on, charging ₹15-40 lakh for a few seconds of footage is wild, especially for small YouTubers who can’t afford that. Indian law actually allows fair use for things like commentary under Section 52, and a lot of creators are transforming ANI’s clips into something new, not just stealing. Plus, a 2024 Rajasthan tender showed ANI winning a contract against two companies it shares directors with, sounds like they’re playing dirty to control the market, not just playing fair. thewire.in/government/raj…
