Under the Registration of Persons Act (Cap 107) and Article 12 of the Constitution, every Kenyan citizen who turns 18 is entitled to a national identification card and must register within 90 days. On paper, the right is automatic. In practice, for thousands of Kenyans from marginalised communities, it is anything but. For communities already on the margins economically, socially and politically, delays in issuing IDs risk translating into reduced electoral participation. Nubian Rights Forum, in partnership with @NamatiKenya & @CanHCKenya held a community forum in Kisii to discuss citizenship laws, the upcoming elections and its impact on historically marginalized groups. We looked into how challenges in access to citizenship undermine democratic processes like elections, voter participation, and political inclusion.

This evening, our @NakulimaSaphina will speak at the Human Rights for Digital Identity [HR4ID] Consultative Workshop on “The Unseen Costs of Inclusion in DPI” at the @GlobalDPISummit. She joins other panelists to share how ISER is contributing to #DPI inclusion. #GDPIS2025

Today, we concluded our 2.5-day #DigitalPublicInfrastructure (#DPI) boot camp in Uganda, convened in partnership with @TempleiLIT & @TempleUniv. Throughout the bootcamp, we explored key issues on DPI, including governance, design, rights, rule of law, public participation, risk management, privacy, and data protection. Through interactive sessions, role plays, and group discussions, participants turned insights learnt into action - linking DPI to their organizational missions, identifying risks, crafting engagement strategies, and developing advocacy strategies. This was more than a training - it was a space to reimagine how CSOs can demand rights-centred DPI systems.
